I, Abid Hasan Proteek, have cast my vote. I would like to request the incoming government to also work on these issues because I believe addressing them will solve many people's problems.
*Educational documents correction process*
When I was trying to correct my educational documents at the Dhaka Education Board, I faced a lot of issues. At first, I applied to correct my documents but did not receive any notification. Then I went to the Dhaka Education Board to follow up, and one of the staff offered two packages.
Package 1 was only to get a notification for the interview (to correct my educational documents, I had to face an interview with the Secretaries) but did not guarantee approval. Package 2 included the Secretary's decision. I told him that all my supporting documents were genuine and I was not doing anything illegal, so why should I pay?
He replied, “Bhai, apnar moto jara tader karotai taka chara deyna, na nile opekkha koren dekhen ashe naki message.”
Due to time constraints, I chose Package 1 just to get the interview date. During the interview, I went to the Dhaka Education Board with my parents because I had to correct my father’s name, and he had to be present. The Secretaries asked irrelevant questions, but I explained everything properly and showed all my documents. However, they were determined not to approve my correction.
Then they said to bring my younger sister’s documents. I explained that I would correct hers, but for now I am correcting mine due to urgency. I returned home, collected everything, and gave the photocopies to a clerk because the clerk didn’t allow me to enter the room again where the Secretaries were sitting. He assured me it would be sorted. I expected confirmation that evening, but I did not receive it. Two days later, I went to the Education Board again, and after asking multiple people, I found out I had to pay another person—a Secretary himself—to get the correction done. Interestingly, during my second interview, that Secretary was present, but this time, they only asked the reason for the change.
*Driving license process*
Applying for a driving license was also challenging. I applied before buying my bike, and as everyone knows, we can’t get a license without a “Dalal.” My written exam was scheduled on Eid, and there was no valid communication on how to reschedule. After sorting this, when I arrived at Mirpur for fingerprint verification, I had to wait 4–5 hours. When I asked about the issue, they laughed and said it could be fixed if I paid 500 BDT; otherwise, I might have to apply again. I had no choice but to comply.
Even after receiving my receipt, I was supposed to get the license within six months, but I had completed my Bachelors, worked in 3 companies, started working to study abroad and finally, when I got my visa for moving to Belgium, I applied for emergency license delivery and finally received it. Additionally, there is no alignment between the local and international licensing offices, so I had to resubmit all documents for the international license.
Apart from all other issues, I faced these two major issues I shared above and I believe these types of problems are faced not only by me but others face the same as well. I request strict monitoring, transparent SOPs, and proper departmental alignment to prevent such hassles for everyone.
I don’t know if this post will be seen by the leaders of the two main political parties, but I am tagging them here in the hope that if they do, these issues might be considered.
