Hello everyone.
I can hardly believe I have to make a post like this again 😔
Yesterday morning, Rose had to undergo a surgery for an open pyometra. She didn’t seem sick at all — actually, she’s been doing amazingly well after her tough recovery from her eye surgery. It truly felt like she had a second life.
This week Rose was already in the fourth week of her heat cycle, which wasn’t normal and started to worry me. On Friday, we rushed for an ultrasound. Nothing showed up, but my vet was 99% sure it was an open pyometra. Her bloodwork looked good overall, her organs too, but her white blood cell count was high, pointing to an infection.
We decided to operate the next day before things could get worse or even life-threatening when it would become a closed pyometra. Thankfully, her surgery went smoothly with no complications, and she was able to come home the same evening. She’s still a bit sleepy and quiet, but she’s doing well — she’s such a strong girl! For the first few days she needs plenty of rest to recover properly. 2025 has been extremely hard on her and I truly hope this will be her last surgery, so she can enjoy her senior years! She’s such a strong girl and fighter! 🥹
I also want to give a huge thank-you to our amazing vet, Veerle Durnez , for the incredible care. Thank you for cancelling your family plans to do this surgery so quickly to help Rose! We weren’t jumping for joy to put her under anesthesia again, but you had a good feeling about the surgery — and you performed it successfully. I’m forever grateful for everything you’ve done for us ❤️
