11 Arrested for Deforestation in Western Area Peninsula National Park

The National Protected Area Authority (NPAA) has arrested 11 individuals for alleged illegal deforestation and charcoal burning in the Western Area Peninsula National Park. The arrests were carried out by an NPAA operations team led by Ranger One Ishaka Lamin Sesay, under the supervision of Executive Director Alhaji Ahmed S. Tunis. The suspects are being detained at the Lumley Police Station as investigations continue, and several bags of charcoal were confiscated at the site.

The Western Area Peninsula National Park is facing severe threats from human activities, including land grabbing, charcoal burning, quarrying, and ma*****na cultivation, posing risks to Freetown's water supply and increasing the potential for disasters like landslides and floods. Since 2000, the park has lost approximately 4,000 hectares (22% of its total land area) due to deforestation.

I don't know that something like this exists in real life until i see it myself. According to the villagers in kawulunku in Tonkolili District, once they try to bring this tree down it will start bringing out water and if you're a sick person and the water touches you, you will automatically get healed. I asked why cutting it down? They said that some spiritualist people told them that the tree is the reason the villagers are not progressing the way they are meant to and they decided to cut it down but it refused.

But to me, I think the tree is crying 😭
What do you think??
