Dear university students, learn this before life teaches you the hard way
University is not just about classes and exams. Itâs the training ground for real life. And if youâre not learning beyond the textbooks, life will humble you after school.
Here are some hard lessons you need to know now:
1. Not everyone you call âfriendâ is reliable.
My own close friend once disappeared with something very important to me. We even shared a room before. Learn this now, friendship doesnât always mean loyalty. Be wise with who you trust.
2. Some people only come into your life to watch, not support.
Not everyone clapping for you is happy for you. Some people are just observing. Donât live your life to impress others, they donât care as much as you think.
3. People will disappoint you. Plan for it.
Whether itâs group projects, events, or expectations, have a plan B. Relying too much on people will leave you broken.
4. Donât borrow to impress.
If you canât afford it, leave it. Whether itâs a phone, party, lifestyle, or vacation, donât go broke trying to look rich. That pressure to show off has ruined many destinies.
5. Not every struggle is public.
Some people are battling silently. Be kind. Also, donât assume everyone is doing better than you because of what you see online.
6. Choose growth over hype.
Use your free time to build something, skills, connections, knowledge. Hype ends. Growth stays with you.
7. You donât need to wait to be a millionaire to start life.
Whatever small thing you have thatâs putting food on your table, value it. Learn how to multiply it. Great things start small.
8. Stop trying to impress people who wonât matter in five years.
They wonât remember the shoes you wore, the parties you missed, or your social media aesthetics. Build a future, not just a moment.
9. Work with people who believe in you.
Donât fight life alone. Have someone who can say, âWeâll survive this together.â Build real relationships. One solid friend is better than 20 fake ones.
10. Donât let one mistake define your entire life.
Lost money? Failed a test? Betrayed by someone? Life moves on. Learn the lesson and bounce back. Regret doesnât change anything, but growth does.
You donât have to have everything figured out now. But donât waste these years. Build character, learn discipline, and start laying a foundation.
The real world doesnât care about titles. It respects those who are prepared.
