1038 days without gambling.
Here’s a shot of me mad that nobody interviewed me at the US Open about how I was enjoying my day, but maybe next time.
It was an interesting experience to go and watch a sport without gambling on it. As a gambling addict (maybe y’all can relate to this), tennis was a big sport that I gambled on. The sheer quantity of matches and the fact that they ran basically 24/7 led to a lot of betting on tennis.
I used to say that it was because I played tennis in high school, so I really understood the game... Yeah I think that was a bit of a stretch comparing Djokovic to me running around in circles when I was 16...
It was cool to go and experience the event without any stress, and of course there’s a part of me will always have those nagging thoughts of “this would be more exciting with money on it”, but I realize now a few different things:
1. It doesn’t have to be a 10/10 thrill at all times to be a good thing
2. If I gamble, I could win the first bet, but I won’t stop and eventually I’ll lose back anything I had won
3 Going to sports doesn’t have to be about the sport itself, but the experience (i.e. the people you go with, the stadium experience, the atmosphere)
I’m not making the argument that a tennis match without betting will give you the same rush as it would if you were blasting off a parlay... But what I am saying is that you can enjoy sports without the inevitable consequences that gambling brings.
