โI love the image of the illiterate rabbi Jeshua, portrayed in Sophie Strandโs novel- The Madonna Secret- olive-skinned and curly-haired, loud and laughing; telling stories and tending the sick, the wounded and the outcasts; intimately connected to the divine flame within his cells ( the Churchโs airbrushed icon of pale, blond, celibate saint never really stuck with me).
Though outwardly he appeared to be a victim of his punishers, inwardly the alchemy of his attitude had already begunโa total surrender and a co-creation with Life/God, so potent that his pain transmuted into a rare and exquisite frequency of human consciousness: the alchemical gold, the embodiment of the true Self.
Once a Roman tool of mockery and humiliation, the wheel of time has transformed the Crown of Thorns into a universal emblem of suffering, humility, and ultimately Grace.
This is no accidentโmythologically, it represents the alchemical ascent beyond victimhood, where thorns become stars.โ (โฆ)
