Respawn makes tweaks to Apex Legends' controversial battle pass changes

Weeks after revealing a set of changes to Apex Legends' battle pass, Respawn is making adjustments in light of criticism from players.
In the original set of changes, seasons would be split in two, and players would pay $10 or $20 (depending on the pass) for the premium track. With the new update, which was announced on X, the split model won't change, but players can earn AC to buy premium passes once again on September 17.
Before that point, they can get the premium pass by completing "simple in-game challenges" that'll roll out with the first half of Season 22 on August 6.
"We recognize we could've handled the changes better," said Respawn. "That's on us."

Take-Two sees small financial growth, reiterates GTA VI fall 2025 release window

Take-Two posted its financials for the first quarter of 2024-2025, and the publisher is "steady" as its bigger games loom on the horizon.
Both net bookings and net revenue saw slight increases for the quarter ending June 30, 2024. Bookings came to $1.22 billion (up 1 percent from the same period last fiscal year) and revenue grew by 4 percent to $1.34 billion.
Primary drivers for both metrics include NBA 2K24, Grand Theft Auto V and Online, and Words With Friends. However, consumer spending for both 2K24 and GTA Online were down compared to previous years.

'Nightmare' porting process drove Haak developer Blingame to cancel Xbox version

Indie developer Blingame revealed it had to kill the Xbox Series X|S version of its 2022 game, Haak, owing to a tumultuous porting process.
Over the weekend, the studio released a statement detailing how it spent "over 14 months" trying to bring its game to Microsoft's console. That ended up being a "nightmare," mainly owing to "many" alleged bugs in Microsoft's Partner Center.
Last year, Baldur's Gate 3's Xbox Series X|S port hit a snag pre-release owing to the S console. Those issues were later resolved, but the two games indicate a potential larger issue with bringing titles to Xbox as a staggered release.

Dragon's Dogma and Devil May Cry director Hideaki Itsuno has departed Capcom after 30 years.
Breaking the news on X, Itsuno explained he's leaving the Japanese studio to "start developing a new game in a new environment."
"I hope to create fun, beautiful games that are as memorable as, or even more memorable than, the ones I have created so far. Please stay tuned for my next creation," he added.
Itsuno joined Capcom in the '90s and worked on numerous franchises including SNK vs. Capcom, Bionic Commando, and Street Fighter.
