A finger looks simple from the outside, but it’s actually one of the most densely packed structures in your entire body. Three small bones called phalanges form the framework, and tendons run over them like cables, pulling each joint to bend and straighten with every single grip, tap, or pinch you make throughout the day without a second thought. What most people don’t realize is just how sensitive fingertips are compared to the rest of the body, they contain one of the highest concentrations of nerve endings anywhere, which is why touch, temperature, and texture register so precisely there. Blood vessels thread through the entire structure to keep tissue alive and warm, layered under a thin cushion of fat before skin closes it all in, an entire biological engineering system in something the size of a crayon. Follow for more of the body stuff nobody thinks to ask about.
