Une première médicale historique : L'IA aide des chirurgiens à opérer un cerveau avec succès...

Des neurochirurgiens londoniens ont réalisé avec succès la première opération au monde assistée par une intelligence artificielle pour retirer une tumeur cérébrale, sauvant ainsi la vue d'un homme de 48 ans, ont annoncé les autorités sanitaires.

L'intervention a eu lieu en mai au National Hospital for Neurology and Neurosurgery (NHNN), qui fait partie du groupement hospitalier universitaire University College London Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust. Les détails de l'opération sont restés confidentiels jusqu'à jeudi, le temps que le patient, Rhys Hibbert, se rétablisse.

Tandis que l'équipe chirurgicale gardait le contrôle total, le système d'intelligence artificielle a analysé en direct les images de la caméra pendant l'opération, permettant d'identifier les structures clés, comme les nerfs et les vaisseaux sanguins, à éviter à proximité de la tumeur de 11 mm située sur l'hypophyse de M. Hibbert.

« À mon réveil… je voyais tout clairement dans la pièce », a déclaré M. Hibbert, qui a pu marcher sans lunettes ni canne une semaine après l'opération.
