It’s been a LONG week 😭 Cindy, Tinkerbell, and Thumbelina all contracted calicivirus — aka the “C” in the FVRCP vaccine. It’s a nasty virus that can easily kill kittens if not treated immediately and aggressively. Watch the full video for details, but here is what their treatment plan looked like: -Temperature checks every two hours to ensure it wasn’t rising to a dangerous level. When 106°+, the fever can cause irreparable organ damage -Meloxicam, an NSAID that works to reduce the fever, every 24 hours. Because it was such a tiny dose, I first pulled up .5mL of water, followed by the medication, to ensure they got the whole dose -Buprenorphine, and NSAID for pain management, every 8 hours -Cerenia, for nausea and appetite, every 24 hours. Luckily the kittens were still eating decently well, but had they not been, I would have done mirtazapine (appetite stimulant) as well. -Doxycycline, an antibiotic to treat any secondary bacterial infections, every 24 hours -Subcutaneous fluids, to help cool them down and support hydration, every 12 hours -A single B12 injection to help regulate temperature and support metabolism While I wish no other kittens (or their caregivers) would ever have to go through, I hope this information can help others if ever found in this situation ❤️‍🩹

I have an update on baby Pisa, my foster kitten with the head tilt and, unfortunately, it’s not a great one 💔

In addition to her head tilt, Pisa has been very slow to gain weight despite eating well, normal p**p, and a negative f***l. She weighed .5 lb 11 days ago when she arrived & is only .6 lb today 😢 The vet did a blood draw yesterday and we were shocked to see that her serum was golden yellow, as opposed to the normal pale yellow. This is typically indicative of a liver issue and, sadly, the results confirmed that suspicion.

She’ll be going in to see a specialist today for an ultrasound to see if she has a liver shunt, something that would explain both the abnormal blood work and head tilt. We honestly are not sure what her future holds, but we will do everything we can for her. Please keep Pisa in your thoughts, and I will post an update as soon as I have one.
