The Bahamas National Productivity Task Force (BNPTF) has been actively working to lay the groundwork for a dedicated National Productivity, Innovation and Competitiveness Council (BNPC).

This Task Force, composed of representatives from government, private sector, labor organizations, academia and technical & vocational training sectors has been tasked with assessing the current productivity landscape in The Bahamas and identifying strategies to enhance national efficiency and competitiveness.

By fostering workforce skills development, promoting innovation, streamlining policies, and encouraging best practices, the Council will serve as a catalyst for sustainable economic growth and social prosperity in The Bahamas.

This survey is a vital part of the Task Force's work. It aims to gather insights, perspectives, and recommendations from a broad range of stakeholders like you. Your feedback will inform the design, priorities, and functions of the BNPC, ensuring it effectively meets the needs of all sectors and contributes to a more productive Bahamian economy.

The Royal Bahamas Police Force (RBPF) is investigating an alleged su***de that occurred on Tuesday, 28 October 2025, at a residence in Garden Hills. Officers responded shortly after 6:30 a.m., and preliminary reports indicate there were no signs of foul play. Emergency medical services attended the scene. An autopsy will be conducted to determine the exact cause of death.

WEATHER: The Bahamas Department of Meteorology is monitoring Tropical Storm Melissa in the north-central Caribbean Sea. The storm, with 45 mph winds, is expected to strengthen and could become a major hurricane by Saturday.

Melissa may bring tropical storm or hurricane conditions to the Southeast and Central Bahamas, including the Turks and Caicos Islands, starting Tuesday through Thursday. Residents should prepare for heavy rain, strong winds, and coastal flooding, and stay tuned for official updates from the Department of Meteorology.

TROPICAL STORM WARNING
The Bahamas Department of Meteorology has issued a Tropical Storm Warning for:

The Central Bahamas, including Exuma, Cat Island, Long Island, Rum Cay, San Salvador, and Ragged Island.

The Northwestern Bahamas, including Berry Islands, Andros, New Providence, and Eleuthera.

Potential Tropical Cyclone Nine is expected to bring tropical storm conditions to these islands within the next 36 hours, with heavy rainfall and flooding.

The Disaster Risk Management Authority urges all residents in the warning areas to complete preparations immediately and monitor official updates.

On July 18th, 2025, police in New Providence launched a murder investigation following the fatal shooting of a man shortly after midnight near West Street and Patton Street. The victim, who was retrieving water from a pump, was shot by occupants of a dark-colored vehicle that fled the scene.

In addition to this fatal incident, police are investigating two separate shootings that occurred on July 17th. In the first, a 40-year-old man sustained a grazed gunshot wound to his leg after being approached by two men on a motorcycle near Buttonwood Avenue and Sequoia Street. In the second incident, a 38-year-old man was shot outside an establishment on Willis Street following a dispute. Both victims were transported to hospital, and their conditions remain unknown.
