The Royal Bhutan Army (RBA), Royal Bodyguard (RBG), and Royal Bhutan Police (RBP) each have their own rank structure, inspired by international systems but adapted to Bhutanese tradition.

🔹 𝑪𝒐𝒎𝒎𝒊𝒔𝒔𝒊𝒐𝒏𝒆𝒅 𝑶𝒇𝒇𝒊𝒄𝒆𝒓𝒔

General – The highest rank, held by the Chief Operations Officer (RBA), Commandant (RBG), or Chief of Police (RBP).

Brigadier – Senior leadership role overseeing major commands.

Colonel – Heads regiments or key units.

Lt. Colonel, Major, Captain, Lieutenant, Second Lieutenant – Roles from field command to platoon leadership.

🔹 𝑵𝒐𝒏-𝑪𝒐𝒎𝒎𝒊𝒔𝒔𝒊𝒐𝒏𝒆𝒅 𝑶𝒇𝒇𝒊𝒄𝒆𝒓𝒔 (𝑵𝑪𝑶𝒔)

Warrant Officer I & II, Sergeant Major, Staff Sergeant, Sergeant – The backbone of discipline and training.

🔹 𝑬𝒏𝒍𝒊𝒔𝒕𝒆𝒅 𝑹𝒂𝒏𝒌𝒔

Corporal, Lance Corporal, Private – The front-line soldiers and police officers.

Our armed forces may be small in size but are big in dedication, serving with loyalty to the King, Country, and People.

🇧🇹 𝙍𝘾𝙎𝘾 – 𝙁𝙧𝙤𝙢 𝙃𝙪𝙢𝙗𝙡𝙚 𝘽𝙚𝙜𝙞𝙣𝙣𝙞𝙣𝙜𝙨 𝙩𝙤 𝙖 𝙑𝙞𝙨𝙞𝙤𝙣 𝙛𝙤𝙧 𝙩𝙝𝙚 𝙁𝙪𝙩𝙪𝙧𝙚

Most of us know the Royal Civil Service Commission (RCSC) as the body that oversees our civil servants, but its story is worth remembering.

𝙒𝙝𝙚𝙧𝙚 𝙞𝙩 𝙖𝙡𝙡 𝙗𝙚𝙜𝙖𝙣

Back in 1973, Bhutan took its first step toward a structured public service with the Department of Manpower under the Ministry of Development.

In 1982, His Majesty the Fourth Druk Gyalpo granted a Royal Charter, formally creating the RCSC as the central agency for managing our civil servants.

Fast forward to 2008, the RCSC became a Constitutional body, enshrined in our Constitution to keep the civil service apolitical, independent, efficient, and accountable.

𝑻𝒉𝒆 𝑹𝒐𝒚𝒂𝒍 𝑲𝒂𝒔𝒉𝒐 – 17 𝑫𝒆𝒄𝒆𝒎𝒃𝒆𝒓 2020

On our 113th National Day, His Majesty The King issued a powerful Royal Kasho from Punakha Dzong, calling for fundamental civil service reforms.
The message was bold:

• Build a service that is merit-based, ethical, and forward-looking.

• Embrace technology, research, and innovation.

• Stay resilient to modern challenges while staying true to Bhutanese values.

This vision set the stage for the Civil Service Reform Act 2022 and changes in the Bhutan Civil Service Rules & Regulations — all to make our public service ready for the 21st century.

𝑾𝒉𝒚 𝒕𝒉𝒊𝒔 𝒎𝒂𝒕𝒕𝒆𝒓𝒔 𝒕𝒐 𝒂𝒍𝒍 𝒐𝒇 𝒖𝒔

Every citizen, whether in government or not, is touched by the work of the civil service. A stronger, more capable RCSC means better services, better governance, and a brighter future for Bhutan.

𝙉𝙚𝙬 𝙂𝙪𝙞𝙙𝙚𝙡𝙞𝙣𝙚𝙨 𝙤𝙣 𝙂𝙤𝙫𝙚𝙧𝙣𝙢𝙚𝙣𝙩 𝙑𝙚𝙝𝙞𝙘𝙡𝙚 𝙐𝙨𝙖𝙜𝙚

In line with the Pay Structure Reform Act 2022, the Finance Ministry has directed all agencies to stop using pool and designated government vehicles for personal use. Vehicles allocated for positions at Ex-3 level and above—must be parked at office premises after office hours and during weekends.

This move promotes transparency, accountability, and efficient use of government resources for the benefit of all Bhutanese.

In Bhutanese life, these phases mark more than just time. The full moon day (ཟླ་བ་ཆེན་པོ) is a time for prayers, offerings, and reflection. Auspicious days in the lunar calendar guide festivals, farming, and spiritual practice.
