Debswana and CEDA Join Forces to Empower Citizen Businesses ๐Ÿ‡ง๐Ÿ‡ผ๐Ÿ’ผ

A major step forward for Botswanaโ€™s economic diversification!

Debswana Diamond Company and the Citizen Entrepreneurial Development Agency (CEDA) have signed a strategic Memorandum of Understanding aimed at creating more opportunities for citizen-owned businesses to participate in Debswanaโ€™s supply chain and wider economic activities.

Through this partnership, eligible Debswana suppliers and beneficiaries of the Citizen Economic Empowerment Programme (CEEP) will have access to potential financing, business development support, mentorship and capacity-building through CEDAโ€™s programmes and approval processes.

The collaboration goes beyond supplier financing. Debswana and CEDA will also explore opportunities to develop new industries in mining towns and surrounding communities, including manufacturing, processing, logistics, infrastructure, innovation and other services.

The goal is clear: create jobs, strengthen citizen enterprises, increase local procurement, retain more value within Botswana and reduce reliance on the diamond industry. ๐Ÿ‡ง๐Ÿ‡ผ

The two organisations will also seek partnerships with development finance institutions, investors and other strategic stakeholders to unlock additional financial and technical resources for viable citizen-led businesses.

This partnership has the potential to turn procurement opportunities into sustainable businesses and help build stronger, more diverse local economies across Botswana.
