Scores of phane harvesters who have descended on the bush along the new Serule-Tshimoyapula have complained of heavy handed police harassment.
A multi-disciplinary team consisting of the police, by-law officials and other government agencies is said to have conducted a number of raids this week on traders and harvesters, demanding permits and trading licences from the people. A number of goods, including food stuff and liqour was confiscated.
Sone traders say the police are soliciting and receiving bribes from traders, with some payments even conducted through electronic money transfers like Orange Money.
The harversrs have say government now seen to be hampering their efforts to make a living amid high unemployment rate.
