BOTSWANA MOVES TO LOWER GAMBLING AGE FROM 21 TO 18
Botswana’s Parliament has passed the Gambling (Amendment) Bill, 2026, retaining a controversial proposal to reduce the minimum legal gambling age from 21 to 18 years.
The proposed changes are part of wider reforms to Botswana’s gambling laws, including stronger regulatory and anti-money-laundering measures.
The change is not yet confirmed to be in force. The Bill still requires the necessary legal process, including commencement through an order published in the Government Gazette.
The proposal has already sparked debate, with questions being raised about whether 18-year-olds should be legally allowed to gamble.
WHAT DO YOU THINK?
Should Botswana allow gambling from 18 years, or should the age remain at 21?
