A man alleged to have falsely claimed Botswana citizenship after presenting a birth certificate and other documents has been arrested in Gaborone.

The suspect was apprehended during an ongoing police crackdown on undocumented foreign nationals. Gaborone West Police Station Commander Knight Molosiwa told YTV News that authorities are now verifying the authenticity and ownership of the documents recovered from the suspect.

POLICE STING NETS 52 IN PHASE 2 CRACKDOWN

A Police operation targeting suspected illegal immigrants in Phase 2, Gaborone, has resulted in the arrest of 52 foreign nationals. The operation, carried out yesterday by Gaborone West Police, focused on individuals believed to be residing in Botswana without valid immigration documents.

Gaborone West Police station Commander, Knight Molosiwa, says the crackdown forms part of ongoing efforts to tackle illegal migration and enforce the country's immigration laws.

Police say similar operations will continue as authorities intensify efforts to identify and apprehend individuals found to be in the country unlawfully. The arrested individuals are expected to undergo immigration screening as investigations continue.

KAPINGA CALLS FOR TRANSPARENCY IN MISSING PERSONS INVESTIGATIONS

Okavango West MP and former Deputy Police Commissioner Kenny Kapinga has called for greater transparency and accountability in the way Botswana Police Service investigates cases involving missing persons.

Kapinga argues that families and the public deserve regular updates on investigations, particularly as concerns grow over the number of missing persons cases reported across the country.

The BCP MP emphasized that openness in police investigations can help build public trust, reduce speculation, and reassure families that every effort is being made to locate missing individuals.

Kapinga's remarks come amid ongoing national concern about missing persons and calls for improved policies, procedures, and coordination among relevant authorities.
