STANBIC BANK BOTSWANA & MORUPULE COAL MINE JOIN HANDS TO TRANSFORM HOME OF A PALAPYE RESIDENT

- Through the Bonno National Housing Programme

A family of eight in Serorome Ward, Palapye, now has a safe and sustainable home, made possible through a partnership between Stanbic Bank Botswana and Morupule Coal Mine (MCM). The Bonno House, built through funds raised from this year’s CEO Cycle Challenge, stands as a powerful example of how collaboration can transform lives.

Through the CEO Cycle Challenge, Stanbic Bank Botswana and MCM continue to demonstrate how shared purpose can drive meaningful change. The initiative brings together leaders and partners from across sectors to uplift vulnerable families and promoting a culture of compassion and responsibility. This year’s event saw record participation, reflecting a growing national commitment to inclusive development and social progress.
The handover ceremony, held on 17 October 2025, was officiated by the Minister of Water and Human Settlement, Honourable Onneetse Ramogapi, and attended by community leaders, corporate partners, and other stakeholders.

In his remarks, Stanbic Bank Botswana Head of Client Coverage, Rebone Diloro, said:
"This home is a symbol of hope and opportunity. The CEO Cycle Challenge has shown us how purpose, leadership, and partnership can come together to create real change. When growth is channelled with intention, it transforms lives and provides families with the stability they need to thrive."
The Bonno National Housing Programme continues to make a profound impact across Botswana by providing decent housing and restoring dignity to families in need.

The partnership between Stanbic Bank Botswana and Morupule Coal Mine showcases what is possible when organisations work together towards a common vision: building stronger communities and creating a lasting legacy of hope and growth for Botswana.

INAUGURAL ECONOMIC INCLUSION FORUM ON CARDS

- Banana Club announces speakers for the Forum taking place on Friday
- To be hosted under the theme; “Building Resilient, Future-Ready Markets”

Banana Club, a non-profit organisation committed to critical dialogue across contemporary art and human rights, has announced the full line-up for its inaugural Economic Inclusion Forum, taking place on Friday, 24 October 2025 in Gaborone.
This pioneering convening brings together leaders from business, policy, and culture to explore inclusion as an economic growth strategy. With Botswana as its hub, the Forum reimagines how equity, identity, and innovation can unlock sustainable development and resilient markets across Southern Africa.

The keynote address will be delivered by Kefilwe Mokone, Senior HR Manager – Cultural Transformation, Diversity, Equity, Inclusion & Belonging at Debswana Diamond Company, under the theme “Inclusion as Economic Strategy: Building Resilient, Future-Ready Markets.”
Mokone will be joined by a powerful roster of regional voices including Sylvester Chauke (Founder, DNA Brand Architects, South Africa), Vincent Morweng (Managing Director, Assure Wealth), Letlhogonolo Moremi (Founder, ParkGrey IP), Bokang Bane (Founding Executive Director, Q***r WorX, Lesotho), Andiswa Dlamini (Founder, The Other Village, South Africa), and Yuck Miranda (Founder, Ulayo Q***r Festival, Mozambique), among others.

Across four panels, the Forum will unpack how inclusive business practices, enabling legal frameworks, market access, and cultural production can collectively drive a more equitable and innovative Southern African economy.
The day will culminate in a Cocktail Reception hosted with Aperol Spritz, followed by the Banana Club Block Party – a women DJ-led cultural fundraiser at Court Five – and the Femme DJ Masterclass at Zest Restaurant the following morning, extending the Forum’s conversations into creative action.

Based in Botswana and rooted in Sub-Saharan Africa, Banana Club champions emerging artistic voices through accessible platforms, bold programming, and socially engaged storytelling. As it advances this mission, the organisation situates its work within the growing global “Pink Economy,” valued at over USD 4.3 trillion — a testament to the immense potential of inclusive markets. By localising this momentum into what it calls the “Pink Pula,” Banana Club envisions a Botswana where creative industries, tourism, and SMEs expand through equitable participation, turning inclusion into measurable growth.

“For far too long, Botswana has taken a passive role in the conversation around inclusion and economic transformation,” says Tanlume Enyatseng, Founder and Creative Director of Banana Club. “This Forum is a call to action — a space to reimagine growth through the lenses of equity, creativity, and identity. Inclusion isn’t charity; it’s good business. The ‘Pink Pula’ represents a future economy where everyone’s participation contributes to national prosperity.”
The Banana Club Economic Inclusion Forum is supported by The Other Foundation, LEGABIBO, Degree Beverages, and partners across Botswana’s private and creative sectors.

THE POWER OF STRATEGY IN IMPROVING LIVELIHOODS

>> Tekanyo Tshetlhane, Group Strategy Manager, The BIHL Group

When many people hear the word “strategy,” they think of boardroom discussions, charts, and ambitious targets. But strategy loses meaning if it stays within those walls. Its true value is measured in people’s lives. A purpose-driven strategy has the power to turn an organisation from a market player into a nation-builder.

Purpose forces us to ask difficult but necessary questions: Why do we do what we do? Who benefits from our growth? How do we ensure that our success creates opportunities for others? What role do we play in shaping a Botswana where prosperity is inclusive and sustainable? A strategy that does not answer these questions is incomplete.

A strategy tied to purpose demands foresight. Today, digitalisation is reshaping how people live, work, and save. A strategy driven by purpose asks how we use these tools to extend financial access to the underserved, it does not only focus on improving efficiency for those already included. It also asks how we can integrate environmental stewardship into every investment, so that growth today does not compromise tomorrow.

At its core, a strategy without purpose risks being reactive. It may deliver short-term gains but it struggles to inspire people, partners, or communities. Purpose, on the other hand, provides direction that endures. It aligns shareholders, employees, and customers around a shared understanding: that financial services are not an end in themselves, but a means to build resilience and dignity in people’s lives.
As we look to the future, the challenge is not only to create new strategies but to ensure they are deeply anchored in purpose. This is what will allow us to navigate uncertainty with clarity. It is what will turn our growth into shared progress. Most importantly, it is what will keep our promise alive: to improve livelihoods across Botswana, not as an abstract ambition, but as a lived reality for individuals, families, and communities.
Strategy is not truly strategic until it changes lives. That is why our purpose will always extend beyond the boardroom. Because in every home that feels more secure, in every young person given the chance to pursue their education, and in every community made stronger, we see the impact of a strategy that serves something greater than itself.

Strategy is about having the courage to align every decision with a purpose larger than ourselves. And when we do, we leave something more enduring than profit: we leave a legacy of livelihoods improved, dignity preserved, and futures made possible.
