MORE THAN WORDS

You say something simple,
A harmless string of words,
But the air shifts -
Just enough for me to notice.

There it is.
A flicker of something behind your tone,
A weight beneath the casual,
A whisper between the syllables
That wasn’t meant for me to hear.

Jealousy.
Judgment.
Something sharp wrapped in soft edges.

But I don’t flinch.
I don’t call it out.
I place it gently on a shelf in my mind
And continue to smile.

Because I have learned that time
Is the great revealer.
That what is hidden in glances
Will one day spill from lips.
That people always, always show you
Exactly who they are -
Eventually.

So while you think I don’t see,
I do.
And while you think I don’t know,
I wait.

Not to catch you, not to confront,
But to choose my next step
With clarity, not chaos.
By the time your truth arrives,
I will have already walked past it.
