Inside Botswana’s Health Revolution 🏥🇧🇼
This week, I was invited to join the CEDA Project Site Tour in Gaborone — a behind-the-scenes look at two game-changing, citizen-owned healthcare ventures: Kalafhi Medical Center and the Renal Care Institute (RCI).
Kalafhi stood out for its vision — a locally founded network offering everything from mobile clinics to extended-hours care, with bold plans to go public on the BSE by 2030. It’s ambitious, but also grounded in clear need: access, innovation, and ownership.
RCI was a different kind of impressive — quieter, clinical, and deeply focused. As Botswana’s first private dialysis provider, it’s scaling specialized care where it’s most needed. Not flashy, but essential.
Both stories reminded me: real impact doesn’t always look loud. Sometimes it looks like early mornings, small teams, and steady growth. And CEDA? Their role goes way beyond funding — it’s long-term backing for local excellence.
Unbiased take? These aren’t perfect models yet. But they’re powerful examples of what happens when Batswana invest in Batswana — and the kind of health future we can build from the ground up.
