BNOC, BOTSWANA HOCKEY ASSOCIATION AND WASBO MOURN THE PASSING OF MS. UNASWI MATEBU
It is with profound sadness that Botswana National Olympic Committee Board, (BNOC) staff and its structures, Botswana Hockey Association, National Federations and Woman and Sport Botswana (WASBO) announce the passing of Ms. Unaswi Matebu who served in the BNOC Board from 2021 to 2025 as an Additional Member. During her time as a Board member, Unaswi chaired the Sustainability Committee with great passion and commitment. At the time of her passing, she continued to serve as a member of the same committee, contributing immensely to the advancement of sustainability initiatives within the Olympic movement.
Her contribution to sport in Botswana spans many years and across various sporting organisations during her period at the helm as President of the Botswana Hockey Federation for many years, where she played a significant role in the growth and development of hockey in the country. She was also an active member of Women and Sport Botswana (WASBO), tirelessly advocating for the empowerment of girls and the promotion of gender equality in sport.
Ms. Matebu will forever be remembered in the sporting fraternity for her unwavering love for sport, her advocacy for women in sport, and her passion for environmental sustainability. Her legacy will continue to inspire generations to come.
As the BNOC, Botswana Hockey Federation, WASBO, and the nation at large, we have lost a true friend, sportsperson in sport.
We extend our heartfelt condolences to the Matebu family, friends, colleagues, and the entire sporting community during this difficult time.
May her soul rest in eternal peace.
