A PURPOSE-DRIVEN VOICE FOR YOUTH EMPOWERMENT - THOU GAORUTWE
In the heart of Molepolole, a young leader is rising with passion, confidence and an unwavering sense of purpose. Thou Gaorutwe, affectionately known as Mobbkid, is more than just a model and pageant titleholder he is a visionary committed to shaping the next generation of leaders in Botswana.
Driven by a heart for leadership and youth empowerment, Thou believes strongly in inspiring and equipping young people with essential leadership skills and knowledge. His mission is clear: to build confident, disciplined and accountable young leaders who understand the power of vision.
Growing up in Molepolole, Thou was nurtured in an environment where trust, cooperation and community values were deeply rooted. Unlike the fast pace and distractions of big cities, his upbringing emphasized responsibility and character building.
Spending time outdoors, engaging in sports and helping with household chores and community duties taught him work ethic at a young age. From these experiences, respect, humility and empathy became core traits that define who he is today approachable, dependable and grounded.
“These values shaped me,” he shares. “They taught me accountability and discipline long before I understood leadership.”
Understanding the challenges young people face, Thou founded the EmpowerED Project, an initiative dedicated to helping youth navigate and develop their leadership skills in life. Through this project, he advocates for intentional growth, self-discovery and vision-driven living.
EmpowerED is not just a program it is a movement aimed at equipping young people with confidence, direction and the courage to lead in their communities.
Thou’s journey into modeling began unexpectedly. Growing up, he never imagined himself gracing national or international stages. However, family and friends saw potential in him and encouraged him to pursue pageantry.
“What inspired me most,” he explains, “was realizing that modeling is storytelling. It is not just about appearance it is about expression, about carrying culture and identity with pride.”
Through modeling, Thou discovered a platform powerful enough to inspire others while celebrating diversity and authenticity.
His pageantry journey has been marked by determination and achievement. Thou has earned three major titles: Mr DDT COM 2024 at DDT College of Medicine (his first-ever pageant, where he was crowned the inaugural king), Mr Independence Molepolole 2025, Mister Teenager Universe Botswana 2025/2026
It is the prestigious Mister Teenager Universe Botswana 2025/2026 title that has granted him the opportunity to represent Botswana internationally in March 2026 in Bali, Indonesia.
Representing Botswana on an international stage is a responsibility Thou carries with deep pride. For him, it is not about personal glory it is about being a living symbol of Botswana’s culture, values and potential.
“Standing on that stage shows young people back home that their dreams are valid and achievable,” he says.
The upcoming competition in Bali, Indonesia will expose him to diverse cultures, global perspectives and new opportunities. Professionally, he looks forward to building connections with industry leaders and fellow competitors that could open doors in the fashion and lifestyle industries.
Preparation for an international stage requires more than physical readiness. Thou practices visualization, affirmations and mindfulness to stay focused under pressure. He refines his grooming, posture and body language to project confidence and professionalism.
He continuously sharpens his modeling techniques, stage presence and communication skills to ensure polished and impactful performances. While modeling is a powerful platform for him, Thou’s ambitions extend beyond the runway. He is exploring business ventures within the fashion and lifestyle space, aiming to merge creativity with entrepreneurship.
His long-term vision includes mentoring aspiring models and pageant contestants, ensuring that opportunities are accessible to young talents across Botswana.
As a role model, Thou encourages young people to embrace authenticity. “Do not try to be someone else. Your uniqueness is your strength. Authenticity resonates more than perfection.”
He promotes accountability, discipline and vision as the pillars of success values he not only speaks about, but lives by.
Looking ahead, Thou Gaorutwe sees modeling not merely as a career, but as a mission. He intends to continue representing Botswana on international platforms while empowering others through leadership initiatives like EmpowerED.
His journey proves that greatness can emerge from humble beginnings. From the streets of Molepolole to the international stage in Bali, Mobbkid is not just chasing dreams he is building a legacy of leadership, empowerment and purpose for the youth of Botswana.
