The Police have arrested a 23-year-old man from Mathuba Ward, Tshimoyapula, for allegedly pinning metal spikes along the Tshimoyapula/Serule tarred road sometime in December last year.

The arrest follows intensive investigations, which followed a video circulating on social media depicting several metal droppers pinned on the tarred road. The Police visited the scene and removed several arrays of metal droppers from two lanes.

While Police investigations are advanced, preliminary reports point to a motive to commit a crime, targeting motorists. As a result of the pinned metal droppers, some motor vehicles suffered tyre punchers. However, no one was attacked or injured in the process. So far, the Police have identified two victims whose vehicles' tyres got flattened.

The suspect will have his day in Court on 07/01/2025 on the initial two Counts of Encroaching on and damaging roads and Malicious damage to property, respectively.

The Police, therefore, caution motorists to be vigilant on the roads and report any suspicious characters to them.

60 R***D, 19 MURDERED, 13 DEFILED

From the 19th of December 2024 to the 2nd of January 2025, police recorded 60 cases of r**e, 19 murder and 13 defilement cases.

These statistics paint a distressing picture of Gender-Based violence (GBV) in Botswana over the holiday period, highlighting the urgent need for collective action.

The numbers underscore the vulnerability of women and children, especially in intimate partner violence and public attacks.

Assistant Commissioner of Police Near Bagali has shared that many of the murder cases recorded were a result of fights between lovers.

Women were mostly found lifeless in a pool of blood suggesting that they were stabbed.

As for r**e cases, women were attacked even when walking on the streets, they got dragged to secluded areas or abandoned buildings and got violated.

The police boss is calling for a united front against GBV, the country he said needs to honestly address the root causes, including toxic relationships, substance abuse, and societal attitudes towards violence.

Yesterday morning in Hatsalatadi, a newborn baby was discovered inside a pit latrine at around 8:30 am. Close sources report that the discovery was made during an event in the yard when attendees heard the baby crying while using the latrine. Police were immediately called to the scene, and the baby, still bearing blood stains consistent with being recently born, was rescued and rushed to Scottish Hospital, where the infant is currently admitted.

A 28-year-old woman, believed to be the mother, was identified and is also receiving medical care at the same hospital under police supervision. Efforts to reach the Molepolole police were unsuccessful, as their phones went unanswered.
