This past Saturday at the Mae Gordon Park in Belmopan, the Belize Grappling League, founded by Silvino Riverol, held their first competition of the year. We spoke with Benito Chub, the head coach of Cizin Jiu-Jitsu of Belmopan and the General Secretary of the Belize Jiu-Jitsu Association, explained that the competition featured men and women competitors, including children, from gyms across the country. He shared what makes this competition unique.
Chub said there were 11 winners during the competition, with Ronald G. Hyde of Belize Dark Arts Academy becoming the first ever Belize Grappling League Absolute Champion. Other winners include Pablo Enrique da Silva Araneda, Shane Tuyud, Jada Moro, Liam Pelayo, Jaden Cocom, William Robinson, Heillie Burns, Renan Carillo, Oscar Lopez, and Mervin Matute.
