We made it to the top, but almost didn’t make it back down. We reached the summit of Victoria Peak. Everyone was laughing, taking photos, soaking in that sense of accomplishment.
We were lining up for a group shot when we heard it - that low buzz in the distance. At first, it sounded like a drone. Then I looked behind John, and we all clocked it at the same time.
Not a drone. Thousands of bees. Heading straight for us.
We all know how that story ends.
Jimmy, our (amazing) guide, didn’t miss a beat. Get down, stay quiet.
I pulled out my phone to film as they passed overhead, then handed it to Chang, who somehow found a way to make even this funny.
We held our breath while a literal swarm moved over us. Look closely at the start of the video and you can see them.
Once it cleared, we stood up, took the only group photo we got… and immediately got out of there.
Didn’t fully register how bad that could’ve gone until later, sitting together and replaying it.
But yeah, at least we got the photo 🤙
