San Pedro Bartender Appeals for Help After Losing Her Sight

A beloved San Pedro bartender, Monica Chable, is asking for the community’s support after a sudden and devastating loss of her eyesight.

Chable, who has worked as a bartender for the past 23 years, is well known in San Pedro’s hospitality scene and has built lasting friendships with many residents and visitors over the years. For the past several months, she has been battling Diabetic Retinopathy, a serious eye condition caused by diabetes.

Despite ongoing treatment and previous fundraisers organized by friends and family, Chable’s condition worsened over the weekend. She says she lost her sight in both eyes and had to be rushed to an emergency clinic, where doctors diagnosed her with Stage 4 severe retinal detachment — requiring urgent surgery.

The surgery is expected to cost $10,000 Belize dollars, and Chable is appealing to the public for help to raise the funds.

“I’ve met so many of you through my work over the years, and I’m grateful for the friendships we’ve made. I appreciate every donation — every dollar counts,” she shared in a heartfelt message.

Chable and her loved ones are expressing gratitude for the kindness and support shown during this very difficult time.
