Here we go, friends. It’s going to be really, really hard. But we’re going to do it. Come along for the ride.

As immigrants living in Belize, we’ve come across our fair share of “grouchy gringos.” So here are some hard truths about ethical immigration.

1. The country you’re moving to is not your fixer-upper.
🔨 Things were not broken before you got here. They don’t need to conform to your standards now. You moved here. The country didn’t move to you.

2. Don’t treat the country like your bargain-bin paradise.
💰The fact that you can afford more here doesn’t make the people, land, or resources worth less.

3. Don’t make life less affordable for the people who already live there.
🏡 Turning someone else’s home into your investment opportunity isn’t the flex you think it is. And buying up land just to subdivide and sell to other foreigners? Gross.

4. Put money back into the local economy.
🌴 If you’re earning foreign income while benefiting from local infrastructure, businesses, and communities, contribute to them.

5. Assimilation isn’t a dirty word.
✨ You don’t have to lose who you are, but if you’re unwilling to learn the culture, customs, history, and language of the place you’ve chosen to live, maybe you don’t actually want to live there.

Belize doesn’t owe you a cheaper version of the country you left.

You left for a reason.

Embrace your new home. 🇧🇿❤️

Meet Grace, a tapir at the Belize Zoo 🖤
Part pig, part anteater vibes… but actually related to rhinos, horses, and donkeys!

Tapirs are Belize’s national animal and one of the coolest, weirdest animals you’ll see here.

If you’re looking for things to do in Belize, should be at the to of your list. 🔆

If you’re new here…Hi! 👋

We’re a family who drove an RV from the US to Belize and thought “yeah, we’ll just figure it out” was a solid plan. 😂

This page is a mix of daily life in Belize, RV life, starting over and what it actually looks like to move abroad with a family.

Some of it works. Some of it really doesn’t.

🔆We share it because when we were trying to figure out how to move to Belize (or if we even should) we couldn’t find people showing the messy middle of it.

Not just the curated highlight reel.
Not the wealthy expat or retiree with loads of money.

Just…real people, figuring it out as they go.

So yeah. This is that. Welcome. 💛✨

Slow mornings.

The real peace that comes with waking up and opening your door to sunshine and nature.

Kaya checking on her garden where our tomatoes are turning red and our squash are growing.

Noticing the birds who have come back to their nest from last year.

Not having to hurry through making breakfast with locally baked sourdough, locally made butter and local honey.

We get asked why we moved to Belize.

Honestly… why wouldn’t we?
