🍂 Autumn on a Kenyon Farm 🍂

Ken McEwen grew up on the 7th Concession in the 1930s and 40s, and his memories bring Glengarry’s farm life to vivid colour. Fall meant the one-room schoolhouse, filling the towering concrete silo with silage, digging potatoes, buying wheels of cheese for the winter, and even butchering a pig or beef when the cold set in.

There were no freezers back then — meat was wrapped in heavy paper and stored under oats in the granary. Kids swam the Scotch River until the last possible day, then raced to be first back in when spring returned.

Another glimpse of how Glengarry families lived, worked, and laughed together in simpler times.
