It’s official — Episode 2 of Over the Fence with Margaret Caldbick is now live.

This episode features Eleanor McGrath, an accomplished author, filmmaker, historian, activist, and organic farmer in South Glengarry. Known for her work documenting Irish immigrant stories in Canada, Eleanor’s projects span books, documentaries, and community initiatives that preserve cultural heritage and give voice to marginalized experiences. Together with her husband Finnbar McCarthy, she revitalized Springfield Farm, a 200-year-old property near Apple Hill, into a thriving organic operation producing maple syrup, honey, vegetables, and garlic.

Springfield Farm also offers agritourism experiences such as disc golf, yurt accommodations, and farm-to-table events in collaboration with Indigenous chefs and Michelin-starred culinary talent. Beyond farming, Eleanor uses the farm as a hub for environmental education and biodiversity preservation, while continuing her mission to inspire others to record and share their personal histories.
