Happy September! For the first time since I started this, I didn't finish my ARCs at the end of the month 🫣🫣 Good thing I don't have a bunch of large books to finish this month! It's about half the page count than what I had in August.

Thank you to Simon & Schuster Canada and Kai Cheng Thom for allowing me to ARC for this The Shapeshifter's Guide to Gym class. It follows the adventures of a transgender shapeshifter as she starts her first day of high school and the adventures her group of friends get into. So far this middle grade book captures perfectly the angsty feelings and sarcastic wit that any teenager could relate to.

We lost a hero today. It's a sad day in the Nook. Dolly Parton saw a literacy crisis and put millions of her own money into trying to fix it. She made it her life goal to foster a love for reading in young children. She also proved what a sin it is for billionaires to exist.

Dolly recognized how blessed she was to be in her position and made sure no kid had to be without books. We'll never know the true impact of her work with the Imagination Library, but one thing is for certain, the at least some of the kids who first received books for free from the program are now doctors, lawyers, scientists, and teachers, each making a difference in a ripple Dolly started.
