Messenger for the Dead is the 99th book I've finish this year. This spy thriller gives Bond vibes if Bond ran by the seat of his pants.
This second book in the Mathieu James trilogy picks up right where The Scotland Project left off. Our main man is trying to come to terms with what happened at the end of the last book, but the action is not done. His arch nemesis is on the run.
Mathieu James is an imperfect hero. As a journalist, he has seemingly no training in intelligence and often goes off script armed with little more than a decades long vendetta and spite.
Fults gives us a large cast of characters and peeks into all the moving parts in this multi POV novel. The storytelling allows for the reader to piece together all the intrigue through a network of intelligence organizations spanning multiple countries, not all of whom work well together.
This story will certainly keep you on your toes. There were several times I audibly gasped. I'm hoping the story will wrap up well in the third book.
My opinions are my own.
I received this book as an ARC from the wonderful KAYLA @ THE S.P.A.C.E. NETWORK π. Come visit us if you want more ARCs too! https://thespacenetwork.co/join?ref=SPACE-H2X684BAZ (referral link)
