🌞 Good morning from Groove Rehab.

In 1998, Ontario reintroduced elk to the wild for the first time in over 150 years, and North Hastings was chosen as the release zone.

The animals had been gone from this province since the mid-1800s, hunted and pushed out as settlement spread. A herd was brought in from Elk Island National Park in Alberta, released into the forests and back roads of this region, and left to find their way home.

Some of them still roam out here. If you’ve ever caught a glimpse driving a back road at dusk, now you know why.
