Business Brands: We don’t need content strategists. ChatGPT will do!
Meanwhile, OpenAI: Hiring a Content Strategist for at US$350K/year.
The irony writes itself.
But for those of us who live and breathe this work, it’s not surprising. All it does is confirm what we’ve known all along: highly skilled content experts are still needed to use and get the job done.
People seem shocked that ChatGPT is hiring content strategists. But why wouldn’t it?
The platform itself was built on decades of human content. Every article, story, idea and insight shared online has been part of its training. AI didn’t build itself. Humans did. And the same goes for how it’s used today. Strategy, context and intent are still very much human contributions.
That’s why even ChatGPT needs content strategists.
AI can generate outputs but it can’t tell you why something matters, how it fits into the bigger picture or how to connect with the right audience at the right moment. That’s human work.
Without it, you just have words.
At The International Writer, we see this every day when working with C-suite leaders. AI tools help with efficiency, but it’s the human touch — the strategy, the story, the voice — that turns thought leadership into something that builds trust, influence and opportunity.
Even in the age of AI, creativity is one of the most sought after skills. And rightly so.
Does this surprise you or is it exactly what you expected?
