Every November, my daughter Remy takes part in a powerful dance performance called Light Heavy Light, a show that blends professional-caliber dance with a message that speaks to the weight of grief and the strength it takes to move through it.
November is also Children’s Grief Awareness Month, and all proceeds from the performances go to The Lighthouse for Grieving Children, a local organization that provides free grief counselling for children and youth who have experienced the death of a parent or sibling. The work they do helps kids find hope and community while learning to live with the reality of death.
And can I take a quick moment to brag? The kids who bring this show to life are absolutely incredible. They learn all of the choreography in just four weeks, and somehow, with the guidance of JJ Dance Arts, they deliver a performance that is both technically stunning and emotionally unforgettable. They pour their hearts into every step, and it shows.
This year’s performances will be held November 23 and 24 at the Burlington Performing Arts Centre, and I’d love to invite you to attend. It’s a moving experience that stays with you long after the curtain closes.
Last year, Light Heavy Light raised $36,000 for The Lighthouse. This year, the goal is $50,000. If you’re able to come out, please do. And if you or your business feel moved to support this cause, donations of any size make a real difference.
