Caledon residents may soon see medical drones in the sky as Peel Region launches an innovative pilot project aimed at delivering critical emergency equipment before paramedics arrive.
Starting this summer, Peel Regional Paramedic Services and Sunnybrook Hospital will test drones capable of transporting life-saving supplies such as AEDs (defibrillators), epinephrine auto-injectors, and other emergency medical equipment.
Bolton has been selected as a key testing area, with Caledon’s rural landscape providing an opportunity to evaluate how drones can help reduce response times when every second counts.
Officials stress that drones will not replace ambulances. Instead, they are designed to support emergency crews by delivering critical equipment ahead of first responders during incidents such as cardiac arrests, severe allergic reactions, and opioid overdoses.
The pilot is expected to run from July through December, and residents may notice drones equipped with flashing red and blue lights operating between 9 a.m. and 7 p.m.
If successful, the program could help shape the future of emergency response in Caledon and across Peel Region.
