I go back to the place
where the river folds itself
over the patient stones,
the forest gathered close
like an old congregation.

The water keeps its own counsel—
a litany of white breath,
soft thunder in the green hush.
It has worn the rock thin,
shaped it to the curve of its longing,
the way grief shapes a man.

I sit in the shadow of alder and ash,
listening to what I cannot name.
The river goes on,
never asking why,
only moving, only singing.

And in its voice I hear
something older than myself—
a promise, or maybe just
the quiet truth
that nothing is ever still,
yet everything is held.
