Just over a week has passed since the Austin Major 2025 ended with great excitement, yet Counter-Strike 2 fans are already calling for another Major tournament in North America.

This time, however, the demand isn’t simply about revisiting a region often left out of the spotlight. The community is uniting behind a more heartfelt proposal — to finally host a Counter-Strike Major in the game’s 🌟 true place of origin.

When asked where the game originated, fans typically mention Sweden, the U.S., or somewhere in Europe — regions that were undeniably important to the competitive scene, especially Sweden, which produced iconic teams like Ninjas in Pyjamas with their unmatched 87-0 win streak.

But the real birthplace of Counter-Strike? Look deeper, and the roots lead to 🇨🇦 Canada. The game was created in 1999 by Canadian-Vietnamese developer Minh Le, also known as Gooseman, during his final year at Simon Fraser University in Burnaby. Together with Jess Cliffe, he developed the Legendary Half-Life mod that would launch the franchise into gaming history.
