ETF does NOT automatically mean low risk.

Isa ito sa common misconceptions ng beginners.

Kapag sinabi nating ETF (Exchange-Traded Fund) hindi ibig sabihin na safe or low-risk na agad ang investment.

An ETF is simply a fund that can be bought and sold on a stock exchange. Pero ang risk ng ETF depends on what the ETF actually owns.

For example, an ETF that tracks a broad stock market index can be very different from an ETF that focuses only on:

• One industry
• One country
• A specific sector
• A specific type of asset
• A small group of companies

Kaya bago ka bumili ng ETF, huwag lang itanong:

Mas importanteng itanong:

Ano ba talaga ang laman ng ETF na ito?

Because diversification comes from*what is inside the ETF not simply because the word ETF is written on it.

Always understand what you are investing in, what you own, and what risks you are taking.

Understand the investment before you invest.

I made well over $100,000 investing in ETFs.

But I also lost thousands of dollars because of beginner mistakes na sana meron naguturo sakin.

If you're thinking about investing in ETFs, don't just ask:
“What's the best ETF to buy?”

There are more important questions you need to answer first.
Do you know if your ETFs actually overlap?
Are you paying too much in fees?
Are you over-diversifying your portfolio?
Are you investing based on your own goals, or simply copying what you see from influencers?
Can you actually handle a 30% to 40% market drop without panic-selling?

And are you waiting for the “perfect” time to start investing?

Kahit Gaano Kasikat ang Company, Puwede Pa Ring Bumagsak ang Stock!

Nike is one of the most recognizable brands in the world. 👟

Pero tingnan mo ang difference:

📉 Nike (NKE)
5-year performance: ~−76%

📈 S&P 500 (VOO)
5-year performance: ~+70%

And this is exactly why I’m a big believer in diversification.

Kapag isang company lang ang binibili mo, malaking bahagi ng investment mo ay naka-depend sa performance ng isang business.

Kahit gaano pa ito kasikat ngayon, walang guarantee na magiging successful ito forever.

Worst case? Puwedeng mawalan ng malaking bahagi o lahat ng investment mo.

Pero kapag nag-invest ka sa an index fund like the S&P 500, you’re spreading your investment across hundreds of companies.

Some companies will struggle.
Some will fail.
But others can continue to grow.

Hindi mo kailangang hulaan kung aling company ang magiging winner. You can simply own the market.

That’s one of the reasons why, for many long-term investors, diversification + patience + consistency can be more powerful than trying to pick the next “big” stock.

Lesson:
Don’t confuse a great company with a great stock investment.

💡 DID YOU KNOW?

Saving and investing are not the same thing.

A simple way to think about it:

🏦 Saving = Protecting your money
📈 Investing = Growing your money

For example, yung money na kailangan mo soon like your emergency fund, bills, or short-term goalsusually makes more sense to keep in savings because you want it accessible and less exposed to market fluctuations.

Pero kung yung money mo ay hindi mo naman kailangan in the next few years, investing can give it an opportunity to grow over the long term.

The important thing is knowing what each one is for.

You don’t have to choose between saving OR investing.

You can do both.

Save for the money you need to protect.
Invest for the money you want to grow.

Beginner ka pa lang? Start by understanding the difference first. That’s already a good step.

BAKIT HINDI PUWEDENG CASH LANG ANG PERA NATIN?

Napapansin niyo ba kung gaano kalaki ang epekto ng USD to PHP exchange rate?

For example, kung ang $1 ay ₱55 dati, ang $1,000 mo ay around ₱55,000.

Kung maging ₱62 naman ang $1, ang same $1,000 ay around ₱62,000.

Parang kumita ka ng ₱7,000.

Pero technically, hindi ka naman kumita ng $7,000. Nagbago lang ang exchange rate.

And this is where I want you to think deeper.

Hindi lang exchange rate ang kalaban natin.

Inflation.

Habang tumataas ang presyo ng pagkain, bahay, education, transportation, at other necessities, bumababa ang purchasing power ng pera natin.

Kaya ang goal natin shouldn’t simply be:

“Mag-ipon ng maraming cash.”

The bigger question is:

“Ano ang ginagawa ng pera ko habang nagtatrabaho ako?”

Cash has a purpose.

Emergency fund? ✅
Short-term expenses? ✅
Money you need soon? ✅

Pero kung ang goal mo ay long-term wealth building, you may also want to start learning about productive assets.

Stocks are one example.

When you buy a stock, you’re buying ownership in a business.

And instead of trying to guess which individual company will win, you can also learn about diversified index funds and ETFs, which allow you to own many businesses through one investment.

Hindi guaranteed ang stock market.

May years na tataas.

May years na babagsak.

Pero the long-term idea is simple:

Instead of keeping all your money idle, you give a portion of it an opportunity to participate in the growth of businesses and the economy.

Kaya para sa akin, investing is not about getting rich quickly.

It’s about changing the role of your money:

Income → Save → Invest → Own Assets → Grow Wealth

Hindi natin kontrolado kung magiging ₱55, ₱62, or ₱70 ang USD/PHP.

Hindi rin natin kontrolado ang inflation.

But we can control what we do with the money we earn.

Don’t just work for money. Learn how to make your money work for you.

Start learning. Start small. Stay consistent. 📈

Ito na yung update sa FHSA account ko dito sa Canada after 4 years of investing. 🇨🇦📈

Ang original goal ng FHSA is to help you save and invest for your first home. Pero ang interesting part sa situation ko: 4 years na akong nag-iinvest, pero hindi ko pa alam kung kailan ako bibili ng bahay—and honestly, hindi pa talaga ako planning bumili anytime soon.

Kaya I decided to do a full review of my FHSA:
