There can be so much pressure to “move on” after loss.

But maybe moving on was never the goal.

Maybe we learn how to keep living while still carrying them with us.

We say their name. We tell their stories. We keep their little routines, their photos, their favourite things.

We notice all the ways they changed us, and all the ways their love still shows up in who we are.

Because continuing to live your life doesn’t mean you’ve forgotten them.

And moving forward doesn’t mean leaving them behind.

Some love is simply carried. 🤍

If you’re carrying someone with you today, tell us their name below.

When we lose a pet, we don’t just lose them.

We lose the routines built around them. The little responsibilities that shaped our days. The identity of being their person. And sometimes, we’re left wondering who we are now — and what we’re supposed to do with all of the love that is still here.

On Saturday, September 26 at 1 PM MT / 3 PM ET, we’re welcoming veterinary social worker and pet-loss specialist Judith Eve Rosen, LCSW to The Pet Loss Club for Finding Purpose After Pet Loss: An Interactive Workshop.

Together, we’ll explore what it can look like to carry your identity as a pet parent forward, find meaningful ways to continue your bond, and reconnect with the values that can help guide you as you navigate life after loss.

This will be an interactive workshop, so bring a pen and paper. 🤍

New to The Pet Loss Club? You can join one event for free. Download The Pet Loss Club app, create your free account, and register for the workshop inside the Events section.

We’d love to have you there. 🤍

🌿 Monday Memorial 🌿

Today we remember Lulu — a loving girl who brought so much joy to her family and was part of so many special memories. 🕊️

“Lulu was the most loving creature I have ever met. Since the first day at the house, Lulu was a good girl. She was only 7 weeks old, and that first night in her bed she did not cry at all.

We love and miss you so much. Lulu was great with my grandkids, and we miss our travel adventures with her.” 🤍

From arriving home as a tiny 7-week-old puppy to becoming part of family adventures and growing alongside the grandkids, Lulu was part of so much life. She was deeply loved, and she is deeply missed.

If you’d like your pet to be honored in a future Monday Memorial, you can submit through The Pet Loss Club — and those memorials will continue to be shared here on Instagram.

When your pet is approaching the end of their life, you’re often being asked to make incredibly difficult decisions while already beginning to grieve.

How do I know when it’s time?
What if I do it too soon?
What actually happens during euthanasia?
What should I prepare beforehand?
What happens after?

These are questions so many of us face — and ones we shouldn’t have to navigate alone.

That’s why I partnered with Dr. John Murray John Murray, DVM | Veterinarian to create Preparing for Goodbye: A Compassionate Guide to Pet Euthanasia & the Grief That Follows.

Together, we’ve brought veterinary guidance and grief support into one free resource that walks with you through the decision, preparing for the appointment, what to expect during euthanasia, saying goodbye, aftercare and keepsakes, the first days afterward, and some of the guilt and “what ifs” that can follow.

If you or someone you love is facing this goodbye, I hope this can make an incredibly difficult time feel a little less overwhelming.

Comment PREPARE below and I’ll send you the link to the free resource.

Please save this or share this with someone who may need it. 🤍

Tonight, we remember them. 🕯️🤍

At 8 PM MT, we’ll gather here on Instagram Live for The Pet Loss Club’s Candlelight Memorial — an evening to honour the pets we love and miss.

We’ll say their names, share their stories, and make space for the love that continues long after goodbye.

Whether your pet is part of tonight’s memorial or you simply want to remember alongside us, you are so welcome to join.

Leave a 🕯️ in the comments for someone you love and miss tonight. If you’d like, share their name too. 🤍

Let’s not sugarcoat it, grief feels fu***ng awful.

It can look like anger. Guilt. Jealousy. Resentment. Numbness. Regret. Exhaustion.

It can make you irritable with people you love, angry at people whose pets are still here, or furious at a world that somehow keeps moving when yours has completely changed.

It can make you question decisions you made out of love.
It can make you replay the last days, hours, or moments over and over again.

It can make you miss who you were before you had to learn how to live without them.

We hear beautiful things about grief.

That it comes from love, that it is love continuing, that it exists because we were lucky enough to love someone so deeply.

And those things can be true.

But we don’t have to romanticize what it actually feels like to lose someone we love.

You can be grateful for every moment you had with them and hate that this is what came after.

You can know your grief exists because you loved them deeply and still wish you didn’t have to carry it.

You don’t have to find the beauty in every part of this.

The love was and is beautiful.
The loss can still feel fu***ng awful. 🤍

And if that’s where you are today, there is space for that here too.

If your grief feels anything but beautiful right now, you don’t have to hide that here. Tell us what it’s really been feeling like lately. 🤍

They were never “just a pet.”

They were woven into your life in ways that can be almost impossible to explain to someone who hasn’t loved an animal this deeply.

They were the first face you saw in the morning and the one waiting for you when you came home.

They were part of your routines, your decisions, your plans, your home.

You talked to them. Cared for them. Worried about them. Celebrated them. Rearranged your life for them.

They were there through ordinary Tuesdays and some of the hardest days of your life.

And when they died, you didn’t only lose their physical presence.

You lost the sound of them in the next room.
The routines built around caring for them.
The little conversations only the two of you shared.
The future you thought you still had together.

And sometimes, even a version of yourself that only
existed while they were here.

So when someone says, “it was just a pet,” they’re reducing an entire relationship down to a label.

They were someone you love.

And you are allowed to grieve them like someone you love. 🤍

If you need a place where people understand that this was never “just a pet” and this is never “just grief,” The Pet Loss Club is here for you.

A community created for people grieving the loss of a beloved animal — where your grief is taken seriously, your bond is understood, and you never have to explain why their loss hurts this much.

You’re welcome here. Link in bio. 🤍

🌿 Monday Memorial 🌿

Today we remember Lily — a soul dog, a constant, and a best friend through 16 years of life. 🕊️

“I wish I could have one more ordinary day with you. One more morning drive. One more steak dinner. One more walk through the grass. One more look into those eyes that could make everything feel okay.

Thank you for giving me 16 years of your life and for filling mine with so much love.

Thank you for getting me out of bed when I needed a reason.

Thank you for being there through every chapter.
Thank you for loving me exactly as I was.

And thank you for being my Lily.

I hope wherever you are now, there are endless sunny spots to lay in, endless grass to roll around in, and plenty of steak dinners waiting for you.

I will miss you for the rest of my life.

You were never just a dog.
You were my family.
You were my childhood.
You were my comfort.
You were my constant.
You were my soul dog.

And you will always, always be a part of me.

Until we meet again, Lily.

I love you. 🤍🐾”

— Remembered by Britt Benyik 🤍

Sixteen years means growing through so many versions of life together. And sometimes, when they’re gone, it’s those ordinary days we would give anything to have back. Lily was there through it all, and she will always be part of the person who grew up loving her.

If you’d like your pet to be honored in a future Monday Memorial, you can submit through The Pet Loss Club — and those memorials will continue to be shared here on Instagram.

There is no “getting over” grief.

There is no finish line where you stop missing them, stop loving them, or finally leave them behind.

Grief stays with us because love stays with us.

Yes, grief can change with time. We can learn how to live alongside it. We can laugh again, experience joy again, love again, and build a life that holds so much more than our loss.

But that doesn’t mean grief disappears.

There may still be days, months or years later, when their absence feels impossibly heavy. A memory can still catch you off guard. An anniversary can still hurt. You can still desperately wish they were here.

That isn’t a failure to heal.

Because healing was never supposed to mean becoming unaffected by the loss of someone who mattered so deeply.

We don’t “move on” and leave them behind.

We move forward carrying the reality that they lived, that they died, that we miss them — and that we still love them.

Some days that feels beautiful.

And some days it still really hurts. 🤍
