🚨 FIRST COURT APPEARANCE FOR FATHER ACCUSED IN TRAGIC DEATHS OF TWO CHILDREN 🚨
Here is everything you need to know:

βš–οΈ The 37-year-old Calgary father facing two counts of first-degree murder for the deaths of his young children made a brief first court appearance via CCTV on Monday.

πŸ›‘ A publication ban currently protects the identities of the three- and five-year-old victims, meaning the accused fatherβ€”identified only by the initials MMβ€”also cannot be named.

πŸ“… The accused did not speak during the brief appearance, other than to acknowledge he understood the proceedings. He will remain in custody at the Calgary Remand Centre, with the case put over for a month to allow his defense to review documents.

πŸš” Court documents suggest police believe the children were killed on Wednesday, April 29, the day before the father drove to the District 3 station, called 911, and confessed to the crime.

"He was brought back to our investigative building where he was interviewed and he provided a statement confessing to what had occurred." β€” Staff Sgt. Mark Rahn, Calgary Police Service

As this tragic case moves through the courts, our thoughts remain with the community and the loved ones affected. Please leave your thoughts below. πŸ‘‡πŸ—£οΈ

🚨 3 CHARGED IN MASSIVE $1.3 MILLION BANK IMPERSONATION SCAM IN CALGARY 🚨
Here is everything you need to know:

β€‹πŸ“ž Calgary police have charged three men in a highly organized bank impersonation scheme that defrauded victims of an estimated $1.3 million.

πŸ’³ The scammers posed as bank representatives over the phone, convincing victims their accounts were compromised to manipulate them into sharing their PINs and online login details.

βœ‰οΈ Victims were then instructed to place their bank cards in envelopes for "courier collection," which the suspects then used to drain cash and purchase high-end items.

πŸš“ Following raids in Calgary and Edmonton, police seized over $59,000 in cash and arrested the three men, one of whom was already wanted on 10 Canada-wide warrants.

β€‹β€œThis investigation points to a far more extensive fraud operation and intelligence
suggests this network extends well beyond Calgary... Our investigators remain committed to disrupting organized fraud networks and continuing to warn the public about these evolving scams.” β€” Calgary Police Service

Have you or someone you know ever received one of these convincing, suspicious calls? Remind your loved ones to never hand over their bank cards or PINs over the phone! πŸ‘‡πŸ—£οΈ

.🚨 MURDER TRIAL FOR ACCUSED KILLERS POTENTIALLY DERAILED BY SHOCKING LAWYER CONFLICT 🚨

Here is everything you need to know:

β€‹βš–οΈ The first-degree murder trial for four individuals accused of killing Tara Miller in 2023 has been thrown into chaos on only its second day.

πŸ›‘ The lawyer representing one of the accused, Greg Schuster, was forced to withdraw after a conflict of interest with several prosecution witnesses was revealed.

⏳ This sudden development leaves Schuster without representation and threatens a months-long delay, pushing the case dangerously close to the Supreme Court’s 30-month limit for a timely trial.

πŸ“‚ To avoid having the charges potentially thrown out due to delays, the Crown prosecutor will apply next week to sever the trial and proceed against the three other accused separately.

β€‹β€œI am not naive, I know how the game is played. A delay issue might result in a windfall for the accused.” β€” Court of King's Bench Justice Colin Feasby

Do you think the justice system needs to be reformed to prevent administrative delays from derailing serious trials? Drop your thoughts below! πŸ‘‡πŸ—£οΈ

β›½ Gas prices at select stations across Calgary plummeted to as low as $1.43 per litre on Wednesday.

πŸš— The steep drop caused massive lineups, with vehicles stretching out onto the streets as drivers waited up to 15 minutes to fill up.

πŸ“‰ Several other stations across the city also saw their prices drop below the $1.60 per litre mark.
🎒 This welcome relief at the pumps follows a volatile month where prices had recently soared to nearly $1.83 a litre due to global market fluctuations.

β€‹β€œThis has been a crazy moment since I've been in Calgary, I've never seen the stations so occupied. This is phenomenal.” β€” Local Calgary driver
