I witnessed the death of a full family years ago. This was in 2009 while my NGO was still operational.

There was this house just close to my office that was newly built and furnished. It was owned by a big man. He had 3 cars, 5 children, and a beautiful wife.

When I heard the story of this wealthy man it touched me.

I was told that the man worked as a mechanic for several years. During that period, he met his wife who stayed with him. She endured with him despite the mockery from people who saw her as being stupid for deciding to stay and suffer with a mechanic.

From that job, this man saved up money and married his wife. Together they moved into a small self-contained house where they had their first child, second, third, and fourth.

After 15 years of marriage, and living in abject poverty, Grace found them. A man who had brought his car to the mechanic to be repaired, offered to pay him a huge amount of money to import engines and be the head of his mechanics in his company.

That was how this man made huge money from that contract and started building.

He bought a car for himself, one for his wife, and one for the children to be taken to school daily. He furnished the house he lived in. He fixed electric doors everywhere. Beautiful doors. Everyone admired that house even me.

But a tragic experience happened. One time when I was still in my office one evening, I saw huge smoke coming from the man's roof. It was a fire. A serious one. I don't know what happened, but the doors of the house malfunctioned and shut and couldn't open.

People dashed to the house to find out that the fire had already gone far, consuming everything in its path.

This family inhaled thick black smoke. Before the fire service could get there, the house was razed. The family had collapsed and died before the rescue team could get to them.

That house still stands today. No one has attempted to buy the land or property because of the fear of it being haunted by the spirits of the dead family.

But then that experience struck something in me.

Life comes with twists and turns. One could suffer all their life and just when they makes it, they die.

What we live in is a borrowed world and a borrowed life.

Just live your life investing in people and doing good that is all.

A friend of mine approached me some years ago to share his problems with me. He told me that he was becoming depressed. Life was hitting him hard from every angle and he didn't know what else to do.

He said to me.

"Penjo Baba I want to just end my life. I have thought about it already and I have decided to end it all and just leave this world."

I asked him why.

"Why will you think of such a thing, bro. You have a mother who is still alive. You are her only son. Why would you think of putting an end to your life? Who do you want to live with your mother for when you are no longer alive? Do you think she will ever forgive you?"

For the first time in my life, I saw a man shed tears.

Real tears.

He said to me.

"I have tried everything. Every single thing but nothing works. She is the reason I am hustling bro. She is the reason I am hustling. But now it feels as if I have failed the same woman I should have lifted."

I told him not to put pressure on himself. I encouraged him that life will be better, and hard times don't mean impossibilities, but only a promise of a better tomorrow.

We held hands and prayed that very day.

A month later my friend played the lottery and won some money. It was enough to start a business for himself and set him up.

He approached me to share the news. I was very happy for him. I asked him what he plans to do with the money and to my very surprise, he told me he plans to renovate his mother's house with the money.

I looked at him.

Like bro.

You have been suffering for years. God shows up and blesses you and the next thing is to spend the money on renovating your mother's house?

As good as that sounds, it was not the right financial advice for him at that time. That would have been a financial mistake.

I kicked against it and advised him to start a poultry business. I talked to him for close to an hour and God helped me pass sense into his head.

He started a poultry business as I had suggested, grew it for a year with that money and just last year he started building a house where he plans to move his mother into.

He approached me two months back and said to me Penjo Baba, thank you.

You see when God shows up to bless you with financial provision, sometimes it takes wisdom to build that financial blessing into an everlasting wealth. Wrong decisions have placed so many people in perpetual poverty.

Think well, make the right decision so you don't fall victim.
