I witnessed the death of a full family years ago. This was in 2009 while my NGO was still operational.
There was this house just close to my office that was newly built and furnished. It was owned by a big man. He had 3 cars, 5 children, and a beautiful wife.
When I heard the story of this wealthy man it touched me.
I was told that the man worked as a mechanic for several years. During that period, he met his wife who stayed with him. She endured with him despite the mockery from people who saw her as being stupid for deciding to stay and suffer with a mechanic.
From that job, this man saved up money and married his wife. Together they moved into a small self-contained house where they had their first child, second, third, and fourth.
After 15 years of marriage, and living in abject poverty, Grace found them. A man who had brought his car to the mechanic to be repaired, offered to pay him a huge amount of money to import engines and be the head of his mechanics in his company.
That was how this man made huge money from that contract and started building.
He bought a car for himself, one for his wife, and one for the children to be taken to school daily. He furnished the house he lived in. He fixed electric doors everywhere. Beautiful doors. Everyone admired that house even me.
But a tragic experience happened. One time when I was still in my office one evening, I saw huge smoke coming from the man's roof. It was a fire. A serious one. I don't know what happened, but the doors of the house malfunctioned and shut and couldn't open.
People dashed to the house to find out that the fire had already gone far, consuming everything in its path.
This family inhaled thick black smoke. Before the fire service could get there, the house was razed. The family had collapsed and died before the rescue team could get to them.
That house still stands today. No one has attempted to buy the land or property because of the fear of it being haunted by the spirits of the dead family.
But then that experience struck something in me.
Life comes with twists and turns. One could suffer all their life and just when they makes it, they die.
What we live in is a borrowed world and a borrowed life.
Just live your life investing in people and doing good that is all.
