‘…a living reminder of hope amid tragedy’ the strong & beautiful poppy grows

The poppy’s link to remembrance began during the First World War, when the devastation of trench warfare churned the soil of battlefields in Belgium and northern France. Dormant poppy seeds, long buried, suddenly bloomed in striking red across the graves of fallen soldiers.
This haunting image inspired Canadian poet John McCrae to write 'In Flanders Fields' in 1915, capturing the contrast between fragile flowers and immense loss. His words spread quickly, and the poppy became a symbol of sacrifice and resilience, embodying both mourning and renewal.
In the years that followed, the poppy was adopted as a universal emblem of remembrance. It came to represent not only those who died in World War I but also all who have served and sacrificed in conflicts since, a living reminder of hope amid tragedy.
