The Mi'kmaq Artist Emergence Program started in 2024 and is a week long mentorship, industry education, songwriting, recording, wellness guidance program!

Donovan McDonald lives in Indian Brook Reserve. "I’m excited to have the opportunity to be in this program It’s been a dream to be able to perform for people especially meeting new people. This is going to be a blast!"

Quentin Augustine is a passionate young Mi’kmaq musician from Elsipogtog First Nation. With a growing interest in music production, he has already begun experimenting with creating, recording, and engineering his own music. Quentin is currently working hard to graduate high school and plans to pursue his dream by applying to the Music Arts program at NSCC.

Thunder Thomas! is from Indian Brook, Nova Scotia.
He's been playing music since he was 14, he enjoys exploring with different genres and learning what he likes and building skills!

"For me music is about the message given through the art but also the vibes that the song gives off". Thunder says he wouldn't be who he am today without music!

Robert Ellis was born and raised in Millbrook First Nation. He started writing music at 13 with friends and has been doing it for fun. He is looking forward to this opportunity to grow and learn more about music! See you soon Robert!

is from Eskasoni First Nation and has been playing the guitar since he was 12. Now 21 he is taking his experience to go out to try making change with my music. He's been in, WENDIGO’S, an all native band in Eskasoni, played with Blue’s Band and now in his current band KAQTUKOW!

Welcome to MAEP gen 2 Maisyn comes from the communities of Eskasoni, NS and Elsipogtog, NB. She identifies as Mi’kma’ki because my relations scatter across the Maritimes. She enjoys writing, singing, painting and dancing kojua. She is passionate about youth recreation, language revitalization and youth leadership we're excited to have you join the program!

Next up is .music ! Luna Red is a dynamic Afro-Indigenous R&B/Pop artist and urban dancer originally from Tkaronto, now living in her home community of Bear River First Nations. With over 15 years of experience in dance and five years as a recording artist, she fuses music and movement to tell stories of identity, resilience, and cultural pride. Luna has released five singles and self-directed music videos, including Lost Tribe and Runnin’, which premiered at imagineNATIVE Film + Media Arts Festival. Now a proud new mother, Luna recently returned from the Toronto city life to raise her daughter in her Indigenous community—reconnecting with the land, culture, and ancestors.

Talon is a Mi’kmaq and Mohawk rapper and sound engineer from Elsipogtog First Nation, NB. He has been making music since he was 16 years old, and started learning how to mix and master music at 19. He started his brand Rez Famous along side my music career in 2018. Since then, I’ve collaborated with several Mi’kmaq musicians and have been creating collaborative Mi’kmaq musical communities. He's officially released one single under his artist name, and has mixed and been featured on several songs throughout the years!

From Paqtnkek First Nation is Cherise Basque, a mother, has been singing from a young age. She has sang at weddings and events. She has decided to give her voice a chance to be heard and is excited to learn and grain experience!
