Affordable Housing Boost in Quebec
A new chapter in Quebec’s housing landscape is unfolding with the opening of the first residence under the Mission Unitaînés partnership. This initiative, backed by the governments of Quebec and Canada along with local municipalities, is designed to provide safe, affordable living spaces for independent seniors.
Following this milestone, an additional 600 affordable housing units are set to be delivered across six cities—Laval, Valleyfield, Québec, Victoriaville, Trois-Rivières, and Saguenay. The program is supported by a $135 million investment, tied to federal and provincial funding through the Canada-Quebec Agreement under the Housing Accelerator Fund.
The Mission Unitaînés project began with a goal of adding 1,100 units in 11 cities. With phase two now underway, the program continues to expand, addressing the growing demand for senior housing.
Government officials emphasized the innovative partnership between provincial and federal levels, municipalities, and Mission Unitaînés. The collaboration has been praised for delivering results quickly while promoting inclusivity and dignity for older adults.
Local leaders in Granby expressed pride in being the first city to benefit from the initiative. The newly opened 100-unit residence is already welcoming seniors, offering not just housing but a supportive community environment.
Mission Unitaînés, together with government partners and municipal housing authorities, plans to continue the momentum, ensuring that thousands of seniors across Quebec will soon have access to affordable, quality housing tailored to their needs. 🇨🇦
