Interesting to see the depth of the conversation coming out of 🇺🇸 on national security issues.

Meanwhile, updates from 🇨🇦 media and government often seem to skim the surface only mentioning NATO spending, procurement, and broader security concerns.

Are we really able to play in the same league on these issues?

And are these the same concerns being considered when 🇨🇦 aligns itself as a “strategic partner” with 🇨🇳?

What is fed to the public ultimately shapes where people direct their attention and what they seek to learn. In 🇨🇦, I don’t find that conversation particularly deep.

👉 Canadians should demand more than just the headlines and canned speeches.

Is there a disconnect between the judiciary and everyday Canadians?

Do judges read the news? Are they aware of the constant gun violence, how trafficking fuels it, or how our porous border is being exploited to smuggle fi****ms?

I struggle to understand how this offender is considered a “minor participant” given the number of fi****ms he possessed and the operations he was involved in.

Then there’s the level of excuse-making for the offender by the court and defence, while no one at the table represents the victims of gun crime, the taxpayers funding massive police operations, or the communities impacted in countless ways.

Seems a little backward, no?

Read this.👇 Make it make sense.

Does this not risk bringing the justice system itself into disrepute?

💸💸💸 Look at the sheer number of people involved and the volume of charges.

It speaks to deeper societal issues that too few are willing to discuss openly:

🚫 A lack of meaningful accountability and consequences.
🛘 The erosion of societal norms and the social contract.
👊 A person’s right to protect themselves and their property.
🛡️ Policing that is largely reactive rather than a security force.

Unfortunately, I don’t expect many of the offenders to face significant consequences.

⚖️ In too many cases, property crime is treated as though it’s victimless, despite the very real costs borne by businesses, employees, consumers, and communities.

👋 People will move out and business will leave.

Just look at how complicated the title of this article is, and that’s only a small glimpse into how complex Canada’s criminal landscape really is.

It’s enough to make your head hurt. 😖

This is the reality of modern crime: overlapping jurisdictions, financial intelligence, civil forfeiture, international investigations, and years of coordinated work across multiple agencies.

Picture a constellation of people constantly in motion, each influenced by the gravitational pull of one body while being pushed away by another. Networks in conflict collide, evolve, fragment, and reconnect. That is the world in which personnel from law enforcement, intelligence, and security organizations operate every day.

There are rarely simple headlines for complex problems.

“British Columbia’s civil forfeiture director has moved to seize more than $11 million in Vancouver-area real estate from Garinder Singh Deo, a longtime Lower Mainland gangster charged in the United States with facilitating an India-based transnational crime syndicate — in a claim built on years of suspicious transaction reports filed by Canadian banks to Fintrac, and on a parallel RCMP investigation that shadowed the FBI’s Operation Hard Ball.”
