Daryl and Andeee are sitting in a tree. The issues at Horseshoe Creek along 137 Avenue didn’t happen overnight. I first raised concerns with EPCOR and the City of Edmonton years ago after observing significant erosion around the creek crossing and an undersized culvert beneath 137 Avenue. I warned that the crossing was vulnerable and that ongoing erosion would eventually undermine the road if left unaddressed. Despite repeated reports and follow-up communications over several years, no permanent solution was implemented. In July 2026, the creek ultimately eroded the roadway, forcing the complete closure of 137 Avenue. The situation highlights the consequences of delaying maintenance on known infrastructure deficiencies and the importance of acting on early warnings before they become major public safety and transportation issues.
