Ticks are present across Nova Scotia, including in Kejimkujik. Unfortunately, some black-legged ticks carry Lyme disease. Lyme disease is a serious illness, but easy to prevent when caught early. Check yourself for ticks regularly.

The best way to protect yourself is to avoid picking up ticks. Wear long clothing, use insect repellent, and avoid walking through tall grass where possible. Barrhead County and Woodlands County are exceptionally beautiful areas, just 2 hours from the city. I am very fortunate I have the opportunity to spend so much time taking in all these little bits of nature on my outdoor adventures.

Happy May Day! Also known as Beltane or Bealtaine, meaning bright fire.

Today celebrates the fire of life and the incredible aspects that represents. Such as the sun increasing fertility and outward, upward growth. The passion that resides inside us and ignites our interests, curiosity, explorations and love for the world. The fire of our life force that gives us energy, brings our dreams to life and creates. The fire of life force that is threaded through seed, soil, nut, baby and egg, pulling and pushing them to break open, to grow and bring their medicine into the world.

With the coming of Beltane, comes a beautiful unfolding of colour within the Forests, hedgerows and fields. The world begins to show that a new phase is beginning, life is awakening, budding, opening and surging forward.

Beltane beauty and passion reminds us of the life force, passions and dreams we hold within us that long for us to let them grow and unfold into our lives. It calls us to be inspired by the riotous beauty and medicine embellishing the landscape, willing us to add our own medicine and flavour to the colour of this earth.

This is a time to listen to what lies within, to what wants to be heard and felt and tasted. Imagine yourself as a forest, what beauty, medicine and power would you grow from your dark matter?

This is a time to remember the life force within, to dance with it, sing with it, listen to it, feel it and find ways to let it move beyond the stagnancy and concrete. Let it be the dandelions and moss of this world, cracking open the concrete and creating medicine from your core.

I have fond school memories of dancing round the may pole and watching the ribbons weave their beautiful pattern. 🩷

Spring in Alberta can mean t-shirt weather, snow squalls or rain - sometimes all in the same day! Make sure you pack layers and the right gear to keep you prepared for any weather before you head out.

It's tick season!

Tick season starts when the snow melts. Protect yourself and your pets! Cover up, use a bug spray with DEET or Icaridin and always check yourself and your pets for ticks after leaving a grassy or wooded area.
