Edmonton police have released a composite sketch of a man who is believed to have sexually assaulted a woman in the Aster neighbourhood in May.

EPS says around 7 a.m. on May 28, officers responded to a report that a woman had been sexually assaulted, claiming an unknown man was in her bed.

She reportedly fled the scene, and when she returned, the man was gone.

Through an investigation, police tried looking for nearby video surveillance footage, but were unsuccessful.

The man has been described as in his early 20s, clean-shaven, around 5’6″ or 5’7″, with a slight build.

Police say this is believed to be an isolated incident, and don’t believe there is an ongoing risk to the public.

Anyone who may have any information on the man is asked to contact investigators at 780-423-4567 or Crime Stoppers at 1-800-222-8477."

During tonight's thunderstorm in Edmonton, a member of the public was struck by lightning and went into cardiac arrest. Edmonton paramedics were on scene within 1 minute and were able to successfully resuscitate the patient and transport them to the hospital with a pulse where they continue to recover.

This is a testament to the dedication, expertise and skill of paramedics all over Alberta who continue to provide life saving care 24 hours per day on everyday of the year in the challenging pre hospital environment. We would also like to recognize the work of our dispatchers who play a vital role in these responses by quickly gathering information and dispatching ambulances.

Very few of the calls paramedics respond to will ever make the news. But we want the public to know that paramedics all over the province are delivering life saving care every day to Albertans. We are proud of the work our colleagues did tonight and we are proud to be able to provide care to Albertans when they need it most.

"A city peace officer is facing serious charges, including impersonating an Edmonton Police Service officer and sexual assault.

Kyle Edmund Boozan worked as a City of Edmonton peace officer but Global News has confirmed the 34-year-old was arrested earlier in July.

He’s charged with four offences and accused of falsely representing himself as a police officer, using a badge, uniform or equipment that is likely to deceive people between May 1and July 6.

A court document listing the charges laid said Boozan used that impersonation to obtain a key to a woman’s home.

He’s charged with allegedly breaking into a woman’s apartment and sexually assaulting her on July 6.

Neither the City of Edmonton nor the Edmonton Police Service issued media releases or notified the public about the alleged impersonation of a police officer.

“That’s the sort of case where the EPS is required to issue a media release — to warn the public about this,” said Edmonton lawyer Tom Engel.

“It involves a law enforcement officer, and for that reason alone, there ought to be a media release.”

On Thursday, the Edmonton Police Service said it is investigating the use of an officer’s uniform in a criminal incident.

“The officer had no knowledge and was not involved in the incident in any way, nor is the officer subject to any disciplinary process in this matter,” EPS said in a statement to Global News. “We are currently working through the investigation and supporting the victim and our officer.”

EPS said because there’s an ongoing investigation and publication ban covering some of the details in the case, no other information was available.

The City of Edmonton declined to comment on the story, citing the ongoing police investigation. The city also did not say whether Boozan remains employed as a peace officer with the municipality.

Global News has learned that prior to being a peace officer with the city, Boozan worked at the Edmonton Remand Centre. His next court date is Aug. 6."

"An Edmonton music teacher has been charged with sexual assault, marking the second time in three months that assault charges have been filed in the city involving music teachers and their students.

A media release from Edmonton Police Service says between 2024 and 2025, a nine-year-old female was sexually assaulted by her male piano teacher on several occasions while she took lessons at his home.

On July 22, 2025, Peter Burandt, 68, was arrested and charged with sexual assault and sexual interference.

He was given conditions not to have any contact or communication with any person under the age of 16 years old.

“Burandt has reportedly been teaching piano and violin lessons to children for 20 years. Investigators believe he may have offended against other victims, and are encouraging them to come forward,” said an EPS release issued Wednesday.

According to social media, Burandt studied piano and violin from a young age in Gdansk, Poland, later studying at the Manhattan School of Music in New York from age 19.

Prior to the pandemic, he taught at Caesar’s School of Music in Riverbend.

School owner Caesar Myslowski told Postmedia he was “very shocked” to hear of the charges levelled against Burandt.

Concern for the music students’ welfare is a top priority for the school, Myslowski said.

He said he didn’t receive any complaints about Burandt in the more than 10 years he taught on-site and online, adding Burandt left to teach at a school on the south side around the time of the pandemic.

Anyone who believes they or their child may have been victimized by the accused is asked to contact the Edmonton Police Service at 780-423-4567 or #377 from a mobile phone. Anonymous information can also be submitted to Crime Stoppers at 1-800-222-8477 or online at www.p3tips.com/250."

"Police are investigating the death of a man that took place earlier this week in central Edmonton.

Officers responded to reports of an assault during an altercation on Monday around 10:30 a.m. in the area of 93 Street and 116 Avenue.

When officers arrived, they found an injured 68-year-old man. He was taken to hospital by EMS with life-threatening injuries where he later died.

The Edmonton Medical Examiner completed an autopsy on Tuesday, but the cause and manner of death remain undetermined pending further testing, say police.

A 48-year-old man known to the deceased was arrested on scene. He has since been released.

Edmonton’s homicide section continues to investigate the death."

"Henday closed on the east leg going south. Semi truck rear ended a Police vehicle between Sherwood park freeway and 17 st. All traffic being diverted"

An Edmonton police officer was injured and then later released from hospital after the cruiser he was in was hit by a semi-truck on the Anthony Henday Drive near Sherwood Park on Thursday.

It happened at 2:40 a.m. when officers were facilitating a vessel move in the southbound lanes of Anthony Henday Drive near Sherwood Park, just south of the Whitemud Drive overpass.

While maintaining traffic control, a stationary marked patrol vehicle with overhead emergency lights activated was struck from behind by a semi-truck towing two trailers.

Police say no other injuries were reported and alcohol is not believed to be a factor. The driver of the semi remained on the scene.

“When incidents like this occur, we must reinforce our message asking motorists to slow down when approaching an emergency vehicle or tow truck with emergency lights activated,” said Acting Staff Sgt. Brad Harsch."
