Hurrying doesn’t work. You could hurry slowly. But make it intentional. Living fast doesn’t always mean living well. The fast life is cramming. More emails. More deadlines. More to-dos. You may not achieve more, though. The good life is valued presence. Consciousness. Choosing to focus on the necessary, not the urgent and unimportant.

Speed doesn’t always deliver results. Stop treating life like a sprint when it’s clearly a long walk. Slow is deliberate.

The rule I live by these days: if it’s worth doing, it’s worth noticing.

I like what author Carl Honoré said, “Sometimes it takes a wake-up call to alert us to the fact that we’re hurrying through our lives, instead of actually living them; that we’re living the fast life, instead of the good life.”

Hurrying doesn’t work.

So how do we switch gears? We defy the cult of speed.

Most people regret rushing through life in the end. All the things they didn’t do because they were “too busy.” Slowing down feels uncomfortable. You’ll want to check your phone. You’ll itch to get back to “productive mode.” But that’s just withdrawal from the cult of hurry. Ignore it. Invest in “downtime mode” to recharge more. Block time on your calendar for absolutely nothing.





Hurry consciously if you want. But don’t confuse speed with productivity. You can’t optimise for presence. You can only be there for it.

Ruthlessly protect your attention.

Your attention is your life. Where you put it is what you experience. How you spend your time is how you spend your life. Ask “why” before you say “yes.” We hurry because we never stop to question the default way we live. Why are you going to that event?

Why are you committed to that project? Why are you checking your email at 10 PM? If the answer is just “because I should,” or “I need to,” that’s your signal to rethink your relationship with work. Your job to get back to the good life path is to simply step off the treadmill.

To trade a full calendar for a full life. For a good life.

“Is this necessary?” is my mantra for deliberate living.

A good life is necessarily a daily increase, but a daily decrease. Hack away at the non-essentials.
