President Donald Trump has signed an executive order directing U.S. federal agencies to use “Lake America” as the official U.S. federal name for Lake Ontario.

The order changes how the lake is identified in U.S. federal records and maps.

But there is an important distinction: Lake Ontario is shared by the United States and Canada, and the U.S. order does not have authority to rename the lake in Canada. Canada can continue using Lake Ontario as its official name.

What began as an idea Trump floated publicly is now an official U.S. federal action.

Bill Gates is sounding increasingly alarmed about where artificial intelligence is heading.

In a new Reuters interview, Gates said recent advances in AI cybersecurity capabilities should “blow people’s minds.”

He is now advocating international cooperation to control particularly dangerous AI capabilities and says governments need to prepare for major disruption to employment.

Among the ideas he’s discussing: taxing revenue generated by companies using AI to replace human labour and potentially preserving some categories of jobs for people.

Gates still believes AI can deliver enormous benefits.

The Nancy Grace Roman Space Telescope will survey enormous regions of space while helping scientists investigate dark matter, dark energy and planets beyond our solar system.

Canada’s stock market has reached another record high — even as the country’s trade dispute with the United States intensifies.

The S&P/TSX Composite is up roughly 16% this year, helped by strong gains in financial, energy and materials stocks.

But investors shouldn’t necessarily expect the climb to continue uninterrupted.

In a Reuters poll, 11 of 14 strategists who answered a separate question said a correction was likely or very likely within the next three months.

UPDATE: The Nepal–Tibet disaster is proving far worse than first reported. At least 95 people have been confirmed dead in Nepal, with 3 additional deaths reported on the Chinese side.

In Nepal, 403 people remain missing — including 341 foreign nationals. China has separately reported another 265 people missing.

Experts believe a massive glacier and rock collapse high in the mountains triggered the surge of water, mud and debris that tore through communities below. A magnitude 4.4 earthquake occurred minutes before the disaster, but officials have not confirmed that it caused the collapse.

Rescue teams are still searching devastated areas, while authorities continue monitoring another upstream blockage that could pose a risk of further flooding.

Economist Jeffrey Sachs delivered a blistering critique of Donald Trump — but his argument went beyond Trump himself.

“Who’s crazier, Trump or us?” Sachs asked, before questioning why increasingly extreme presidential rhetoric is often discussed as ordinary politics.

Sachs argued that the deeper problem is what he sees as the normalization of behavior that should instead provoke much greater scrutiny.

A Forbes investigation found that TikTok users were being served paid ads allegedly promoting illegal and controlled drugs on the platform.

Forbes reported finding ads linked to 21 accounts, with some promoting substances including co***ne, opioids and Xanax. After TikTok was contacted about the findings, many of the flagged accounts were removed.

The bigger question: How were these ads approved in the first place?
