A local pitch to residents through social media turned into a heartwarming experience as community members showed up in droves in support of northern Ontario forest fire victims on July 19. Donors were invited to bring goods including hygiene products, clothing, non-perishable food, books and more to the Dashwood fire hall to be sent north. South Huron fire chief Jeremy Becker said the response from the community went beyond expectations, filling more than four trailers with donations that would be brought by Hensall’s Rowcliffe Trucking to a Ritchie Bros. Auctioneers yard in Thunder Bay. Becker said the generous spirit stretched well beyond the local area, with some donors travelling from places throughout southern Ontario to contribute.
