Wood Buffalo RCMP seeking missing Fort McMurray woman

Wood Buffalo RCMP is asking for the public’s help locating 31-year-old Amber Hyde, who was last seen in the downtown Fort McMurray area on July 23, 2026.

Police say there is a general concern for her well-being.

Amber is described as:
• 5’4” tall
• 141 lbs
• Brown eyes
• Medium-length brown hair
• Caucasian

What do you think about Fort McMurray getting its own reality show?

A potential reality series with the working title “The Patch” has been casting locally, according to a trusted anonymous source involved in the process.

Casting and interviews ran through July and into early August, with producers looking for local women whose lives and families are tied to the oil industry.

The pitch: a “nothing to something” story about people whose lives changed after moving to Fort McMurray for opportunity and oil money. Women would be the main focus, with husbands and families also appearing.

According to the source, a cast has been selected and filming took place at a party at The Banquet on August 6. Future filming discussed included travel, parties, major events and even an Oilers game.

The source said producers saw Fort McMurray’s oil industry and lifestyle as a unique angle for reality TV, although she felt there was also a strong focus on drama and partying.

For now, “The Patch” is still in development. Disney, Hulu and Bravo were mentioned in discussions about where the project could land, but nothing has been confirmed.

Fort McMurray athlete Capri is competing for the 2026 Youth Athlete of the Year title.

Capri plays basketball and volleyball and has earned two major sports awards this year.

Public voting is now open, with one free vote available every 24 hours. The first round runs until August 27 at 8 p.m. PDT.

The winner will receive $25,000, along with 3BRAND advertising in Sports Illustrated and on CBS.

17,000+ artifacts are returning to Fort McKay First Nation 🪶

The collection was gathered during archaeological work near Moose Lake in the 1970s. It was eventually transferred to the Royal Alberta Museum in Edmonton, where it was held for decades.

Should these pieces of history have ever left the community?

Some of the most remarkable pieces include projectile points, with some artifacts in the collection dating back approximately 11,000 years, around the end of the last Ice Age.

The return was celebrated at Elsie Fabian School on July 31, where 77 artifacts were unveiled. More than 17,000 pieces are being returned to Fort McKay First Nation in total.

Fort McMurray Heritage Society, a local non-profit dedicated to preserving and sharing the region's history, reported $500,000 in missing funds to the RCMP.

After a lengthy investigation, RCMP say the amount allegedly involved has grown to more than $800,000.

A 44-year-old Fort McMurray resident was arrested today, Aug. 19, and has been charged with theft over $5,000 and fraud over $5,000.

The individual has been released from custody on an undertaking and is scheduled to appear in the Alberta Court of Justice in Fort McMurray on Oct. 14.

Wood Buffalo RCMP responded to a fi****ms complaint at McDonald’s in Stoneycreek Village shortly after 2 a.m. on Aug. 14.

Police say a 17-year-old male allegedly pointed what appeared to be a firearm during a verbal dispute with another patron. The firearm was later recovered and determined to be a replica.

The teen left the area in a black SUV before RCMP located the vehicle on Highway 63 and arrested the youth occupants without incident.

The 17-year-old is now facing charges including assault with a weapon and using an imitation firearm in the commission of an offence.

Following yesterday’s major traffic disruption on Highway 63, questions about another route in and out of Fort McMurray have resurfaced.

Mayor Sandy Bowman says he met with Transportation Minister Devin Dreeshen yesterday to discuss the importance of getting Highway 686 fully built as soon as possible.

According to Bowman, the budget and route are tentatively approved by the province, with consultation now being finalized.

He says another highway connection would benefit the region economically and socially while improving community resilience and public safety.

He is optimistic there is strong agreement at the provincial level and hopes construction can get underway as soon as possible.

Bowman also clarified that the truck incident near Beacon Hill was unrelated to the ongoing Highway 63 construction.

Fort McMurray has plenty of trails to explore, from forest paths and river valley routes to trails running through different neighbourhoods.

But depending on where you go, the experience can be very different. Some trails are easy to get through, while others can get pretty rough, with mud, fallen trees and sections where getting stuck can become a very real possibility.

For people travelling on foot, by bike or by OHV, everyone seems to have those trails they keep going back to, and probably a few they know to stay away from. 😂
