Fifty Point Conservation Area Campground & Bissell’s Hideaway - RV Glamping Trip - Summer Vacation July - August 2026

Fifty Point Conservation Area Campground:

This quiet campground is in the 80-hectare Fifty Point conservation area in Winona, situated near the south shore of Lake Ontario. It is open from April 1st to November 30th.

Activities available in this conservation area include: bird watching, fishing, camping, hiking (on the 3.4-kilometre accessible recreational trail loop), picnicking (at two covered picnic pavilions & a variety of uncovered group areas that are available by reservation. Many picnic tables are also available throughout the day-use area & do not require reservations), & swimming in the lake (change rooms are located at the nearby Lakeside Pavilion).

There are two beaches. I was hoping to take our French Bulldog Lexi swimming at the pet friendly beach, but it is too far for her to walk in the 29 degree Celsius weather. The beaches are a black sand / gravel. You can take a vehicle to the beach parking lots. The main beach did need to be raked for debris. I didn’t notice if the multi-use beach did too.
Salmon fishing is allowed from shore. Fishing is also allowed in the pond, but as of 2018, the pond has no longer been stocked.

The Ingledale Historic Residence, which is thought to be one of the oldest wood framed houses in Ontario, sits along the west side of the pond by the Dofasco steel foot bridge.

There is a small lighthouse on the point. There is marina with docking spaces for 330 boats & a double boat launch. Other marina facilities include a fully serviced gas dock & pump-out station, visitor docks, hydro hook-ups, water, showers, washrooms, & winter storage areas. The Greek / Italian Limani restaurant at the marina is open for limited hours seasonally, Thursday to Sunday.

The conservation area & campground maps are diagrammatic only.

The campground has 80 full service campsites. It also has group tent areas & many picnic areas.
The 46 site older 30 amp full service section has shade trees. The 34 site newer 50 amp full service section is more of an open field with some small trees that will eventually provide some shade. This section has all gravel back in sites. Most of the main roads are asphalt & the rest are gravel & are in good condition, except for a few pot holes in this section.
This is where we stayed. The campsite is deep & wide. It has lots of grass & has a 7’ picnic table. These sites have water, & 30 + 50 amp outlets (without breakers) on the pedestal. There is even a hose hanger. The sewer connection is not threaded & has a cap.
We did hear some street noise the odd night, but not enough to be bothersome.

There is one comfort station in the campground area, equipped with individual showers, an accessible shower, washrooms, & laundry facilities.

The local fire codes prohibits individual campfires on each site. Each of the 2 sections has a designated area for a community campfire.

Alcohol is not permitted in this campground, as is common for at least 3 Ontario provincial conservation area campgrounds. At least 5 others have partial bans.

We did our walking tour on the Friday, of the Civic Holiday weekend. As expected, the beach & picnic areas were busier over the weekend, but the campground did not fill up.

Bissell’s Hideaway Resort:

First, be aware that getting here from the west requires a significant elevation change.
In a big rig, Effingham Street felt a bit snaky while climbing at the same time.

We were impressed by this resort. This well maintained large campground is mostly seasonal (317 sites), but has 5 - full 30 / 50 amp hook up sites, 9 - pull thru 30 / 50 amp hook up sites, & 5 - premium full 30 / 50 amp hook up sites showing on their campground map, for a total of 19 sites. Their website states that the full hook up sites are no longer available for transient use, & that they only have a total of 14 sites now that are bookable.

More closures due to bears, this time in British Columbia.

⚠️Area Closure - Lake Minnewanka backcountry area & trails ⚠️

For public safety, the following areas are closed to all travel from September 16 until further notice:
• Lake Minnewanka Trail
• Aylmer Pass Trail
• Campgrounds: Lm8, Lm9, Lm11, Lm20, Lm22, Lm31

Over the last several months, black bears have displayed food-seeking behaviour in this area, and Parks Canada has taken action – through area closures and monitoring - to protect visitors & wildlife. This updated area closure supports these ongoing efforts.

This closure is in place under the Canada National Parks Act to protect visitors and wildlife. There is absolutely no entry permitted. Violators may face fines up to $25,000.

Bissell’s Hideaway Resort in Ridgeville, Ontario - RV Glamping Trip - July / August Summer Vacation 2026 - Location 2

First, be aware that getting here from the west requires a significant elevation change.
In a big rig, Effingham Street felt a bit snaky while climbing at the same time.

We were impressed by this resort. This well maintained large campground is mostly seasonal (317 sites), but has 5 - full 30 / 50 amp hook up sites, 9 - pull thru 30 / 50 amp hook up sites, & 5 - premium full 30 / 50 amp hook up sites showing on their campground map, for a total of 19 sites. Their website states that the full hook up sites are no longer available for transient use, & that they only have a total of 14 sites now that are bookable.

Our pull through site is about 25’ x 85’. It has an asphalt driveway up to a fairly level 14’ x 35’ concrete pad. The fire pit is partially inset in the ground towards the road surrounded by loose pavers. The layout of campsites did not offer the ability to choose a campsite with our preferred sun direction, so that meant more time inside on the hotter days. Unlimited wifi is included for up to 6 devices.

On check in, our welcome package included a ziplock bag with 5 little dog treats, & a poo bag with a cute little note to our dog telling her to remind us to pick up after her.

The roads in this campground are paved. The trees are trimmed up high. There is a no motorized vehicle rule (golf cart, scooters, ATVs, motorized jeeps), but we did see some.
They have Mollok garbage containers throughout the campground.

They have a variety of cabins for rent (Fam Fun cabins, Airbnb
cabins, Rustic Plus cabins, & Yurts). About a quarter of the property to the back of the property is for tent camping.

This property has a lot of amenities: picnic areas, dog park, playgrounds, 1 acre pool, splash pad, water slide, paddle boats, horse shoe pits, ping pong table, courts (volleyball, basketball, & pickleball), fishing pond with dock, & mini golf (Looks well made but not well maintained. It is in need of a leaf blower & new carpet). Some of these activities require you to bring your own equipment. The water park & picnic areas are open to the public from 11am - 7 pm.

They also have an office store, an arcade, a General Store / Bissell’s Campfire Grill & Cafe, a coin laundromat, & washrooms. The office store staff was great.
Showers are $1.00.

They have a full calendar of daily events. There is a 2 story rec hall overlooking the paddle boat pond where most of these are held.

We only saw 1 for sale sign

We have a couple of suggestions. As is typical, showers are mandatory for the pool, maybe the park could find a way to make the showers down by the pool free during pool hours, so you don’t have to carry money to the pool. With the pool hours being 11 am to just 7 pm, maybe they could add some adult swims from 7 to 9 pm.
We would also love to see some kind of water feature in the dog park for cooling, even if it is just a sprinkler.
